We got the application by calling the Long Island Housing Partnership. Here is the website LIHP
You can either get 12,000 or 14,000. You also have to qualify by making under a certain amount of money. Brad bought it in his first year of teaching. You also have to stay in the home for 5 years at least or else you need to pay the grant back

Re: first time homebuyers grant
How do you qualify? FH and I are going to be collectively making around $150K in 2009, and we want to buy a house in Islip by January 2010 (start looking right after the wedding, use wedding gifts for down payment, hope to sign the paperwork in December 2009). Do we make too much to qualify?

150 K is too much...i could be wrong but i think it was less than 50, 000

There's two different levels... I think for the first level where you get the most help the cut off is around $60k for two people. With the other level it has to be under $90k I think.

Honestly I think this is BS. Yeah, I said it. This is why there's a fugging brain drain on LI. The middle class can't afford to stay here, and doesn't get any help to do so.
Vent over.

You have to go to classes, go to cdcli.org or .com, the classes were pretty informative, we got a grant for our house, it was a huge help

I agree...my aunt used to say..we are in the F. U. zone...we don't make enough to move ahead in life ( buy a house, pay for children's college..etc) BUT we get NO help to do so either.... SCREW US!!! Now my vent is over.....
