I've gained 5 pounds which isn't bad, but before I got pregnant I was 15 pounds overweight. So, right now I am at the heaviest I have ever been, but I am also the happiest.

Between 8 and 11 weeks, I lost 2.5 pounds and honestly, I think I lost another pound this week.

I have 6 days left in my 1st trimester and I gained about 4-5 pounds.

I lost 5 or 6 lbs in my first trimester but I had bad m/s. Last time, I think I gained 8 lbs. You should try not to compare though, everyone is different (and as I am learning every pregnancy is different even for the same Mom)

I believe that I have now passed the 40 mark! I still have a little to go....

it's okay Nancy - it comes off don't worry about it. I wish I could go back just for that reason. To not stress about the weight gain. It's so different for everybody.

No, I don't worry! My mom said good luck gaining any less than 50. I swear that I eat fairly well and exercise (I don't care what people say, chocolate IS a vegetable.) My 3 sisters and my mom always gain more than the recommended and all of them lost it. Heck, my mom had 7 of us and is lucky to weigh 115-120 soaking wet!

I actually lost 7 pounds in the first trimester due to M/S, but have successfully gained 20 pounds (as of today) to date (now in the 7th month).

I am not preggo yet, but I thought I would just add, that this is one of my greatest fears in getting pregnant, gaining a ton load of weight and never being able to get rid of it. I guess I won't know how I feel and if it goes until I get there

Ya know what happens though Shamma? Something in you triggers this weird nurturing spot, and it's like every pound has an excuse in your head. Like - the baby needs it. And the baby does. And somehow for the most part, you don't mind what is happening to your body - you just accept it because your baby needs it. I think 'nurturing' and 'mothering' really starts with the first pound gained. It's the ultimate in selflessness, and it kind of takes over. Of course, it's hard when the weight starts to go up and you start to get anxious about losing it, but even then - its' secondary. You just sort of become secondary. I remember when I was pushing after 2 hours, and they were telling me that my blood pressure was dropping, and my kidneys were in trouble, etc and all I could say was: 'is the baby okay'. And every time they said yes, I could keep pushing. It's like I didn't matter. It was all about that little baby and my responsibility to get her out safely.

It's like that with the weight gain. Your need for that little person to be safe and healthy will take over. I promise.

Shamma, I totally have the same issues. Honestly, unlike jenny I have had a harder time remembering that it is for the good of the baby. I know it may sound selfish and awful but it is just the truth. Somedays I am okay with the weight, other days I am not. We will see what happens after the baby comes. I know one thing, though- I am not even pulling out my pre-pregnancy clothes until at least the summer. Ignorance is bliss.

Re: first trimester weight gain/loss

oh wait don't get me wrong!!! All I did was worry and be REALLY upset!!!! There is a portion of your brain though that is processing that it's for the baby - it's a different kind of weight gain feeling than overating on Entenmanns cookies.

Oh PLEASE dont' let me paint myself as some saint! I was devastated a lot of the time!!!

Re: first trimester weight gain/loss

Jen, you are too funny and your honesty is always refreshing.

I do agree though, there is a portion of the brain that reminds you that the weight is for a good reason. Sometimes I actually even look in the mirror and say to my DH that I love my body. Now that is HUGE for me. Hope that little voice doesn't shrivel up and die after the baby is born and I am still carrying the weight. Then I am really screwed.

Jen & Jessica, the 2 of you look incredible, what the heck are ya talking about?

Re: first trimester weight gain/loss

Thanks ladies

Jessica and Jenny you both look fabulous and you both still do.

I guess its one of those things that they say you have to be in it to understand. I feel like I am going to have to live in the gym just to not go crazy worrying about the weight gain.
