First Wedding DIsaster

First Wedding DIsaster

We cancelled our wedding a few years ago and they kept part of our deposit. We called to reserve our date with the money they had and were supposed to go in today to sign a contract. FH called to make the appointment later and they told him they gave away our date yesterday. I'm so upset I can't even talk or think. I'm so angry. How could they do this to me!?!?!?! We've waited so long...we've been through so much, they've had our money for 4.5 years and now this. We had an appintment today and they gave it away yesterday. What should I do?

UPDATE: Totally resolved. We got our money back!!!!

If there was no contract signed I don't think they are bound to keep your date for you, unfortunately. I'm not sure - perhaps there was a misunderstanding? Did you call them - what did they say?

im confused... I thought that they only held a deposit until they could get someone to take the date?

Re: First Wedding DIsaster

They had a nice chunk of money from our previous date in 2006. I called recently several times and spoke with them and told them the date i wanted. We told them we know we want the date, we'll come in to sign the contract. Two different people assured us the date was ours, it's in the book, no problem. I didn't think it would be a problem, especially since the amount they already have is more than the initial deposit to hold the date. They sold it out from under us the day before and now will not give us our money back . They didn't even CALL us to give us the opportunity to come in the day earleir to sign and give them more money, which we would have happily done. They're lying and saying we never gave them a specific date, we were just coming in to look at the place.

I just want my deposit back and then we can all go on our merry way.

I had to go out THAT NIGHT to find another hall since we were looking at a holiday weekend, then ended up having to change the date anyway, and shell out MORE money for another deposit at another place.

I really hope they give me my money back, They have been holding it since December 2004!

They gave us back 2/3 of what we had paid ( we were a few payments in) and kept the rest toward a future date..we had to fight to get that much back..and as far as I know they DID sell my original date.

so sorry to hear that ... i would call them and find out what happened ... tell them that you were told that the date is 'reserved' for you and you were coming in to sign tomorrow ... ask them if, because of this mis-communication, you could get your full deposit back.

if they say no, is there any way you could choose a different date with them?

I actually had my attorney (a relative) call them and he is dealing directly with the owner. They were not at all apologetic about it, in fact they were rude and basically called us liars. I would NEVER want to have my wedding there, and the owner kind of alluded to the fact that it would be best to not have it there. I think they just need to return my money ASAP.

wow ... sorry about that

maybe it's better off that you found out now as opposed to in a few months when you've paid them even more.

That's not right. I would think they would at least call you and give you a heads up, hey these people are interested in your date! I'm so sorry.

Re: First Wedding DIsaster

I am really glad I found out now.

I went to see other palces as I mentioned that night and I found a place I love. The owner promised to hold our date for a week and I watched him write it in the book. I made an appointment to come back and sign a contract. I had to miss it because I sprained my ankle and I offered to give thema deposit on a CC and have them fax me something (this is what one of the staff people mentioned) but the woner got on the phone and he said 'Look I don't want your money. I want to go over everything and make sure your wedding is done right' I was so impressed!
