First Wedding Dress Shopping Trip!
Hi ladies! I just wanted to say thank you so much for giving me suggestions on where to shop this past week!! I decided to go on my very first dress shopping trip today, by myself. For someone who hates to shop- I was really happy that I did this!!
I was worried that my chubby body would not fit at all into any samples and that I would be miserable with each dress that I tried on! Boy, was I wrong!
Surprisingly, my big Irish/Puerto Rican hips looked pretty damn good in those A-line dresses that I tried on!!
And my worries about whether strapless was an option were all for naught! With the exception of about three dresses, all I tried on were strapless. Now, don't get me wrong- I still have the oh so lovely back fat going on, but at least it was not as horrific as I had anticipated!! Yay!
I ended up starting at David's in Westbury and worked with Etta. She was a sweetheart and really knew her stuff. I tried on 5 different Oleg Cassini gowns. Four of them looked great on me! Luckily, they have bigger sample sizes, so I found that I am actually a 16 in their dresses!! It made the day start off great!! The place was deserted- I was the only bride in there! It was a wonderful experience!!
Second, I went to a small shop in East Rockaway, called Blanchees. Vicky is the owner and let me tell you- she is amazing!! She has a sweet personality, treats you like a princess and makes you feel like you are shopping with your sister!! A girl from the knot suggested that I go to see Vicky, and I am so happy she did! For anyone looking for a lovely experience that is personalized and fun- go see Vicky at Blanchees!! I fell in love with a couple of Alfred Sung dresses here!
Lastly, I went over to Brooklyn, to Lestan's. I can see why they have been in their location for over 40 years!! I worked with Patricia and she was a doll! She helped me try on about 10 dresses and had picked the three that I ultimately fell in love with, herself!! She made me feel good about my body and kept telling me how small my waist is!
Who doesn't love to hear that! She was very forthcoming about the designer of each dress, the prices and the style numbers!! She even wrote everything down for me!! I fell in love with a new Maggie [Alena], Jasmine Haute Couture and an Anjolique here.
So, all in all, I had a fantastic day!! Tomorrow, I will be going out with my MOH to Lillette's and Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. My Mom is flying in from Georgia next week and we will shop for 3 days. I think we are also going to hit RK's in the city, as well as go to the shops that had my favorite dresses from today and tomorrow!!
Thanks again for your input and votes on my little poll! You all helped me so much! You guys are the friggin best!!
