Re: FI's
My FH is just NEVER home.
He's a first year teacher, and in the beginning of the year, there's tons of meetings and things to do.
He also has at least an hour commute.
He leaves 6something, and is usually home around 6something PM, unless it's a grad school night, in which case, it's 10pm.
I'm at work by the time he gets home, and when i get off work, all i have time for is homework and sleep.
I have him on the weekends, though!!!

Re: FI's
My FH is a police officer but for the narcotics division. Its crazy hrs, changes everyday! Nites, days...mid day! Then comes fri/sat nites where he isnt around. Its tough! I figured that if he isnt going to be around, then I need to keep busy too. For now I work 2 jobs...the p/t one for 3 days a wk. Plus, its helping on the wedding planning and eventually to get ahead for a home.
I just look at it as a sacrifice we both need to make. He loves his job and I know things tend to change once he is there longer. I also try to vacation with him when he has days off. You will find the time to be with him. Hang in there!

Re: FI's
We don't work different schedules but we live on opposite ends of the city (me near JFK - he lives in Upper Manhattan). We see each other on Friday nights and sometimes Saturdays. Honestly it is the biggest PITA ever and I can't wait to get married just so I can see him everyday.
Only 10 more months!

Re: FI's
I work days (9am-6:30pm) and he works twi-nights (1pm-11pm). It's for the same company but since I work in the office and he's a warehouse manager we still don't see much of each other.
Fortunately we live together so it's not too bad. But he's still sleeping when I get up and by the time he gets home I'm ready for bed. So we really only get to do things together on the weekends, and that's when we have his daughter with us too. So 'couple' time is rare.
Even still, we make it work. We do something special during those rare 'couple' days. I wait up for him at night and we watch some TV together before falling asleep, maybe enjoy a lil snack.
A woman I work with has been married for 32 years and her DH also works nights, she says it's the best thing and we should keep it the way it is. We appreciate the time we have together so much and we never get tired of one another. It's nice bc we get to have our alone time or do things with other people. But we miss each other so much!!!!!!!

Re: FI's
Mine is a second year law student and he never seems to be around. We have a scheduled date night every week and each weekend and we send lots of emails to each other. It's not the ideal situation, but no matter what, his is the last voice I hear before I go to sleep.

Re: FI's
I don't see FI at all during the baseball season! He works for the Mets Organization - Brooklyn Cyclones so he's working his regular shift from 9am-5pm and then games - weekends and weekendays, days and nights.

Re: FI's
I work 9 to 5pm- then the gym- etc home by 8pm
he works from 11am to 7 or 8pm then the gym- ususally home by 9:30- 10pm
he stopped working saturdays- thank goodness
but I am ready for bed by the time he gets home- lately he has been skipping the gym- so I have been lucky- but since he is a meat head- that can't last too much longer
at least I am never expected to cook dinner-

Re: FI's
I've got a 4th year law student. He takes classes and works also, although I will say this year is a lot better than the past three which were hard. We live together...so there is always SOME time spent together.
Christine- the son of one of my mom's coworkers just got signed to the Cyclones I think. So I've got like 5 degrees of seperation to you that way!

Re: FI's
My FI is in England and I se him every 4-6 weeks for about 5 days its extremely difficult and sometimes I even start resenting him because of the situation. I try to remind myself that it's not going to last forever (i'm moving to england in january until june we have been doing this for 14 months) and soon we will be together. I keep busy by working a second job. It's never easy, but just think soon he will be your husband!
