Yesterday was my 31st birthday and FH surprised me with a fishing trip early in the day. We got up at 5:15AM and it was stormy, but by the time the boat left at 7AM (out of the Huntington marina) it was actually getting a little sunny. The weather was great from 7-10 and then it got dark again, but we avoided rain until the very end, when we were docking. Below are some pics - one is just of the nice scenery and the other is FH with the nice fluke he caught. We ate it for dinner, rolled up with some crab stuffing and baked - yum!

thanks girls. at first i didn't want to go fishing but when we got going it was a lot of fun, very relaxing to just stand there with the pole and let the sun warm my face. it was a great day!

Sounds like you had an awesome time. I used to go fishing with my Daddy all the time, but now he can barely walk.
Glad you avoided the rain, it was vicious.

I caught a few fish that were too small, a bunch of searobins and a porgy, that was very tasty!

I know - I haven't been fishing for fluke in a few years and was very suprised to hear that they had increased the limit to 20.5 inches! Last time I went it was like 17.5 I think. And suprisingly, there wasn't a ton of meat on it - just enough for our dinner!
Apparently the fluke are pretty abundant this year in the huntington harbor and the sound, however! better than the south shore channels for sure.

Happy belated Birthday!! That was a nice surprise. Nice fish he got! Good thing you didn't get caught in any of those storms...it was really bad! I saw a picture in the paper of a funnel cloud near the Home Depot in Farmingdale!! Did anyone else know that?

When we were coming back into the marina, the skies looked BAD and both FH and the captain said they looked 'tornado-ish.' It didn't suprise me to hear about the funnel cloud in Farmingdale on the news last night!
