We gave him a flea bath and i've vaccuumed the entire apartment (including the sofa, any pillows we have, and our bed). What if that is not enough? Are we going to have to flea bomb the place??
UPDATED: Okay so twice we have bombed the apartment. The first time we bombed the place and took him to the vet to get a flea bath. This did not work. The second time we bombed the place, we gave him some pill that the vet recommended which kills the fleas in 15 minutes (you can actually see them fall off). We also gave him the frontline drop, but we did this about 4 days before everything else. AND this did NOT work either.
He still has them and we don't know what to do!!! How do you get rid of these suckers???

Re: fleas...
You really should bomb the place. Flea baths won't work (because fleas can be in the carpet and jump back onhim). Where did you get him from THe shelter should've treated him for fleas with revoultion or advantix.
Your best bet is to call the shelter and have him treated for fleas, or if bring him to the vet and have the vet apply the meds. Please don't flea medicate him yourself because he is a baby and the meds depend on his weight.
Ps. If you want to get him a playmate. Check out my website:
All cats and kittens are treated for fleas before they are adopted out.

Re: fleas...
He's 5 months old and he didn't get the fleas from the shelter. He got it from another cat who he plays with (my fiance's sisters cat). So basically you're saying that we should bomb the house and take him to the vet?

Re: fleas...
Take him to the vet. They can give him an injection to kill off the fleas. Then you will probably want to put him on a monthly, topical flea killer such as Revolution or Frontline.
Yeah!! Fleas jump from place to place. You need the vet to treat with him a topical called Revolution or Advantage. Like DIta posted: don't use anything over the counter.
I would recommend bombing the house. It is the only way to make sure the fleas don't go back on him.

Re: fleas...
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BOMB! IT'S BAD FOR KITTEN, BAD FOR YOU!
If you go to the VET and get treatment, the fleas will die. The vet will tell you how many treatments to use. Since it's in the kitten's system, every flea on the kitten, or that gets on the kitten (and they all will at one point or another), will die.
Don't let your kitten outside, for a host of reasons beyond fleas including feral cats, disease, theft. The fleas will go away, you shouldn't have to bomb.
Also, flea baths or collars are bad for kitties. Go to the vet instead. It'll be cheaper in the long run.

Re: fleas...
But i don't understand what you're saying. How will the fleas go away? Yes the vet will kill the fleas on him, but what about in our apartment??? Its not like they just evaporate.
We bought Hartz spray for the couches and carpet, but now I'm glad we haven't used it yet. Does this apply to that product as well, or just the stuff to put ON the animal?

Re: fleas...
15 years ago when we got my cat he somehow got fleas....we gave him fleabaths everyday and almost killed him - so please be careful with the baths
We brought him to the vet, had him treated for fleas and then found an exterminator to come to the house every month to spray for fleas and other bugs. they never came back.
i would suggest going to your vet, have the kitten treated and then ask for their recommendations on how to get rid of them in your house

Re: fleas...
Talk to your vet about getting them out of your house, with a few months of Advantage or some other treatment (from the vet, not the store), you shouldn't have to do anything other than wash your fabrics...

A girl I work with used it on her cat and the poor thing almost died. I don't know about any of their other products but I personally will not buy any of their products now because I don't trust them. I don't know how they could have released a product with such terrible side effects.

yes, advantage, frontline or revolution. Do not use flea medication that you can by in the store b.c they do not work. You do need to know your cats weight to order the proper medication. I have two indoor and outdoor cats and it works for them. I also have a dog. no fleas.

But will that take care of everything? The fleas? eggs? inside our apartment? I just want them gone!

pretty much. I have only found one flea this summer on my dog. I am happy with Advantix
