flies being protected???

they're kidding right?they're freakin' flies people....dirty nasty flies. next we'll be protecting compost heaps

I think every species of animal and plant deserves to be protected if they are threatened by extinction. And those flies are cool - elaborate courtship displays!

ETA: I was a biology/ecology major - so those are exactly the types of topics I studied and LOVED!

don't get me wrong....it's not that i am against protecting species...but it's flies... imagine the conversation on a summer evening on the veranda:
'Honey hand me the fly swatter, this guy has got to go.'
*SWAT/SPLAT*
'AAAAAAAAHH!!! Jim, you just killed a blue-eyed water fly, the feds are going to lock you up, those are protected you know!'

They couldn't protect something cuter?

And how do they expect people to KNOW the difference between these and common flies? is anyone going to take the time to look before swatting?
