Florida mini-honeymoon suggestions

for reasons beyond our control, my fh and i have very little time for a honeymoon. in the next year or two we are going to italy for a real honeymoon.

but i would like to go someplace for a night (or hopefully 2 nights). we are moving to the pan-handle area (north west) in florida immediately after the wedding.

Does anyone know of any romantic, affordable places in northern florida? i would like it to be within reasonable driving distance, so southern florida (miami) is not an option. i thought about disney world, but i dont think thats our style. we want something a little more intimate and romantic (and very importantly, affordable). we are getting married at the end of october, so it is not during school vacations (when places are crowded with families since school is out).

I heard Amelia Island off of Jacksonville is beautiful. There is a Ritz Carlton there and if you check the site often, there are deals.

look into Destin or Panama City for some nice beaches and hotels.

My grandmother lives in the Panhandle (Ft walton area) so I go there a lot.

Believe it or not, Disney can be very romantic. They have all exclusive things for HM'ers. You can even take a private yacht into the bay and watch the fireworks over the castle while sipping champagne.
PS I'm not going there for my HM, I'm just a Disney fanatic!

I live in Orlando (planning a LI wedding) and would def. recommend Destin or St. Augustine. St. Augustine is VERY romantic. Castles, great restuarants, right on the water.....It's very historic if your into that. I believe they also have a Ritz. Destin is beautiful too....but if I had to pick between the two for a HM I would choose St. Augustine. Tons of people drive up from here to get married up there because its so romantic.

disney has some amazing resorts and hotels. and you can have a very romantic time without setting foot in the parks or even seeing mickey (in person...the picture of him is too hard to avoid!)

the animal kingdom lodge has rooms that overlook the safari. you can see the giraffes very close to your window. and the restaurants in the resorts are really spectacular!
