I'm a Westbury Manor bride and I've been looking over their paperwork for the vendors. I know that my DJ and photog need insurance but didn't realize my florist does, too! My 'florist' is an old family friend who does this on the side, not as his full time job so, of course, he doesn't have insurance! He was going to charge just for the flowers, not for the labor but now I'm worried I won't be able to use him. Can someone let me know if they have had a similar situation?

they can purchase a one time insurance plan that will allow them to be insured the 24 hours before your event, day of and day after!!
my brother Djs on the side and if he needs insurance this is what he does and charges the customer 50% of the insurance fee and he carries the rest.

Did your venue say he needed insurance? He can probaly get a one day coverage. Try www.wedsafe.com or www.1dayevent.com
A florist, DJ or photographer, whether they be part-time, side or whatever, should have some type of coverage. If not, they have no business offering their services.

Why is he charging 50% of the fee to the customer?? It's a cost of doing business and he should cover it himself or build it into his regular fee. He's better off getting coverage he pays monthly or yearly.

he does weddings on the side. It is a built in fee. However, my brother Djs a wedding for $500 for 5 hours because its a side job. He also DJs in 2 night clubs when he doesn't do a wedding. He maybe does 5 weddings a year and doesn't pay monthly for insurance. Since he is a Dj and owns the business, he is only charged $100 for a night of insurance. Either way, someone will save $1k using him.

I contacted the venue and they told me I can sign a waiver for the florist. One worry eliminated. Thanks for all your helpful responses, ladies!
