I called a florist last week to make an appointment (not going to name names) and the guy on the phone told me 'call back in September'. He said this because then the flowers will be in season and he can show us what they have. I only wanted to make an appointment so I can price around. I was kind of upset about his response to me. I see lots of people making appointments and booking their florists way in advance and I'm ready to start the florist search. FH said he's going to call back but I'm thinking of crossing them off the list all together. Anyway, I'm just wondering if anybody had an experience like this? Also, how much do you need to know before you go see the florist? I know the # of boKs, bouts, etc. I need, but I'm still not decided on type of flowers or centerpieces. Is this going to be a problem? TIA

I would not go back either. I would choose another vendor. When I booked. We looked at pictures of what I wanted. I brought a few in, then they had tons of pics and we went over our design Idea. Your time is precious and so is your money, I would not wait around unless you know for a fact that this vendor would give you an amazing deal.

Re: Florist Ques
When is the 'standard' time to book a florist for a wedding? I know you can pretty much do it whenever you want but what's the norm for it. i know right now I don't know colors or anything yet for my wedding so I'm not ready to go.

Re: Florist Ques
i wouldn't go back. he should have at least met with you now for pricing & options and then in september you could have finalized things.

I wouldn't go back either, what if he doesn't have your day available in September? And also, his attitude kinda stinks
ETA: And wouldn't he be interested in making money???

Re: Florist Ques
Fh also wants to go back because they're kinda linked to our hall so he thinks we'll get a good deal. But my feelings are just like everyone elses...his attitude really turned me off.

I'm more worried now that I'm not going to be prepared for the appts. How much do I need to know about what we're going to need when I meet with the florist?

I think it was just a polite way of saying they are really busy.... I've heard this before b/c I used to work at a florist.. but dont be annoyed by it. They just want to make sure they have enough time for weddings that are in the immediate future (within 3 months) for appointments.
You really don't need to know too much. You should have an idea of how many people are in your BP. Keep in mind Mothers, fathers, Grandparents and any other special relative you would like to honor with a flower. They will ask you for a estimate of how many people you are having to figure out a rough number of tables. They will ask you if you want your ceremony site decorated.
They will give you rough estimates on price for CPs and BO-Ks.
I think thats all you will need to know. If you have colors in mind for your wedding, you should share them with your florist...but don't worry if you didn't pick out your colors yet.
I hope this helps!

Re: Florist Ques
believe me...just because they are linked to the hall, doesn't necessarily mean you will get a great deal.
i didn't chose a florist because of her attitude. i am giving you business, but you don't even want to act like you are interested? doens't make sense to me. so, i went with someone else.

Re: Florist Ques
I had the same type of issue with a very reputable photgrapher that I wanted to use for my wedding. The first time I called they told me to call back because they were on a lunch break....*** did they answer the phone for? and the second time I called they said I still had plenty of time and to call back in a few months....how the heck did they know what my plans were, maybe I wanted to book my photog early so I can book other vendors....
needless to say, I didn't call back bc I have enough attitude of my own to deal with, i don't need attitudes from people I am paying.
call once more....if you get a similar reply from them that rubs you the wrong way then cross them off your list!!!

Re: Florist Ques
I wouldn't go back. Not a good first impression!
Also, some florists charge you based on the quantity of what you need, and not what type of flowers you're using. If that's the case, you won't need to know to much info re: colors and flowers. However, other florists do consider the type of flower you're using and factor that into the price. In those cases, you're better off knowing so you can get a more accurate quote. Either way, when you book the florist you're not stuck with anything... you can make changes up until a couple of weeks before the wedding (and in some cases, this may change the price). GL!
