Me and the FW were talking and neither of us know how it works with the florist. We have some definate ideas of what we want. We are assuming you go and look at what they've done... you discuss what you want, and they give you a price, but do we ever see a sample of what they are gonna do before the wedding?
Thanks, Jeremy

Re: Florist Question
Some florists will voluntarily do a sample for you. If you find a florist you like and they don't bring it up, defintely mention it before signing anything.
Good Luck!

I believe most florists have design sessions with you before the wedding, or I think they will do a sample for you before you book at a fee . . .

Most florists will do a 'design session' with you before the wedding, where you will design your centerpieces.

Re: Florist Question
well I went and I spoke.. he gave me ideas.. i shot most down.. We got a price (we didnt have to leave a deposit because it was part of our photo/video pkg)
We're supposed to go back later to see the roses I want.
I have no centerpieces or stuff so Im not a lot of help. But I've heard ladies here do get samples all the time.
Good Luck!

Re: Florist Question
Yes! I saw a sample of my CP before I booked with my florist. Some will do samples after you book but closer to the wedding. Some will even do sample bouquets. I'm sure there are florists who won't do samples either.
When you first meet with a florist what they are really interested in knowing is how many people in your BP, how many extra people you are getting corsages & bouts for, how many tables, how many extra arrangements (restrooms, cake table, sweetheart table, etc), and what kind of flowers you want to use.
If you have some definite ideas of what you want, you should bring in lots of pics.
Good luck and have fun!

Carmine from Flowers By Emil (a vendor here) will design your c-pieces, boo-ks, etc. with you. He will go over flowers with you and tell you what is available and what is not. He is so wonderful to work with!!

Re: Florist Question
Here is the play by play, you call-tell them your date, they book an appointment to sit with a consultant/designer, you give them the number of bm and ushers, flower girl, parents, grandparents all that assuming that you want bouquets, boutineers, corsages etc. they price each item so beware-let them know if you don't need the MOH to have a slightly different bouquet-usually more money, they ask how many tables at the reception, ceremony flowers if needed, other areas, card table etc. and then they ask if you picked out the BM dresses, what color scheme are you going for and will try to come up with a ideas for centerpieces, some do not show you samples before booking because they might not have the flowers you want on hand, but you should ask, if it's common like roses then it may not be a problem, they will give you a general quote and thats the basics.

Does anyone know all florists work this way, with desing session & stuff. Even if they are not a florst like the vendors on here that specialize in weddings?

Re: Florist Question
I think it depends on the scale of florist that you are using as when I first started discussing flowers the local florists really wnated to know what you wanted and you looked at pictures and discussed the kind of flowers ... where the upscale salons always have displays ready... and if you schedule an appointment they will talk to to get an idea of what you like and then they will haveyou come in and the displays are set up and you pick and choose what you like.. they have albums of various weddings and floral pieces...

My florist, Flowers By Emil does not only specialize in weddings. He asks you questions about colors, flowers you like, ideas you have, etc.

Re: Florist Question
If you want the usual arrangement of roses - some places have them on display and others will have photos to show you. If you want something different - you should bring in photos. I STRONGLY suggest that you familiarize yourself with some basic flowers to save time. Also - you may want to get an idea of what some of them cost and when they are in season. ( basic flowers like roses, hydrangea and other in season flowers) If for instance, you decide you want lily of the valley bouquets and that's your only idea - you will be disappointed that they are out of season almost all year! And very expensive no matter when.
I did not find florists were all that creative without prodding from my mom and I. They revert to the same centerpieces every time. They are still pretty centerpieces but if you are going to spend that much - you might as well make it memorable (my way of thinking anyway) Good luck. The appointments take a long time so be prepared. I spent at least 2 hours with each florist and I knew what I wanted.
