Florist question

Florist question

So here is my dilemma...I feel that I should book a florist, however, I have no idea on colors or flowers, nothing is really jumping out at me.

So here is my question, how do I book someone not knowing any kind of prices for anything? Also, I want to do candle centerpieces so really all I need from a florist is flowers for BP/mothers. Will they even want me?

Seriously, how do I book? Oh and I was thinking of giving FH a break and meeting with florists on my own...I don't think he cares about flowers..did you leave your FH out of florist meetings?

Re: Florist question

you have plenty of time before your wedding, so if you wanted to wait to book a florist until it gets closer - maybe when you have some more ideas of what you want, you could definitely do that. i didn't book mine until may - and my wedding is this oct. when you go to florists, they have plenty of books for you to look through to get ideas. when i went, i had no clue of what i wanted, except the general style of my bo-k. i brought a picture of that, and we worked off of that together. for the BP flowers, i got ideas from the books there. and if you're not doing centerpieces, you don't have too much to worry about at the florist... and of course they'll want you! lol lots of people do their own centerpieces. i mean, the florist want people who just order a bo-k of flowers, right? so of course they'll want you! i think you should take some more time to get a general idea of what you want, bring a swatch of the girls' dresses so the florist knows what color scheme to work with - and then they'll help you. they're the professionals!!
i brought my mom and FH... he actually wanted to go. which is surprising because he hasn't wanted to do anything with this wedding. he gave his input about the style of the centerpieces and the guys' flowers - that was it. the florist helped me the most. i say leave it up to FH - if he wants to be there, bring him. if not, trust me - you and the florist should be just fine on your own.

Re: Florist question

your wedding will be on my first anniversary!!!!!!!

ok, now back to business.

i did only 'personal flowers' bouquets, botonniers, corsages, and halos. NO CENTERPIECES.

they are a business.... and every business knows that 'some money is better than no money'

if someone 'doesn't want you' then they shouldn't have any business.

i booked mine at the start of the year and she's been very understanding about my not wanting a lot of flowers.... long story as to why

i also left fh out of the meetings with the florist. he's the reason why we're doing few flowers, so he gets what i pick

Re: Florist question

One of the best decisions I have made to date re: wedding planning was leaving FH at home for the florists...LOL...unless your FH is into that, I really don't think you need him there.

The florists will definitley still want you even if its only bo-ks, etc. My wedding is after yours and I'm looking to book now to lock in prices. I really have no idea what I'm doing exactly either (I have a general idea of knowing I want to do fall colored flowers but it's not a definite thing) and the florists are able to give you an estimate based on the ideas of what you probably would want.

Start shopping around...you'll get to see some really great things that might end up being what you want. Have fun with it...right now Im at the deciding point and i'm back and forth b/w Flower Michele and Verbena Designs. I've been to 11 different florists so if you have any questions, let me know..chances are I checked them out...LOL.

Re: Florist question

Hi,

I booked my florist about six weeks before my wedding, so don't feel pressured. Go to a few places for estimates. That's the best way to know if you are getting a good deal.

I left my FH at home, but I am going to bring him to see the sample CP.

We are using tall candleabras on each table along with two small flower arrangements.

FM if you want more info!

Re: Florist question

well, i would go to florists-- visit a few and visit some of the creative ones like john @ flower michele, flower barn, signature, pedestals, laurie at la blossom, keyth from lovin oven floral designs (who is especially creative)...

meet with them, tell them what kind of dress you have, where your wedding is, the type of wedding you invision, color schemes if any, time of year, etc and see what they can come up with-- ideas, let them show you flowers, etc.

then see what you like... also, even if you are interested in candles they may still be able to help you with that-- keyth had these gorgeous 6 feet tall candelabras that hold 12 pillar candles that his florist owns and will be letting me use at the church on my day!! he will decorate them with flowers cascading down but they are beautiful on their own also.

trust me, even if you just do bo-ks and that's it they will still want you and they will be (i'm sure) more than happy to help you creatively. so meet w/ them and have a ball-- you don't have to bring FH if you don't want to. i went with FH b/c he is very involved and ENJOYS coming everywhere with me when it comes to the wedding-- but if he didn't, i would have went without him. Meeting with keyth was the most fun I have had in planning the wedding so far!

Good luck, HTH!!!

Re: Florist question

Thanks girls...I guess I should start going soon to lock in prices, then they can give me ideas, but again, I am not sure on colors. I haven't even picked out MY DRESS yet! UGH...see, I guess I should just wait until I pick BM dresses/color...

Re: Florist question

you don't HAVE to but it might help a lot if you have the dresses for the girls-- b/c then you will know the color which could affect what color flowers you get.

i knew, when i went in, that my girls will be wearing a cranberry red-- b/c i've always wanted that.
