Florist shopping newbie

Florist shopping newbie

So, I need to start shopping for florists for my July 2013 wedding. I love *looking* at flowers, and have a general idea of which flowers I like, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be armed with before walking into a florist's shop. My mom and I would like to start visiting shops soon... any advice for what I should know ahead of time? What questions I should ask? What 'assumptions' I should not have?

Start printing out bouquets and centerpieces that you like. Know what kind of look you're going for (elegant, playful, simple, colorful, etc.). Know what colors you want. Know your budget.

I brought my BM swatches and since I have colored shoes I brought them too. If your getting married at Watermill, try Towers Flowers in Nesconset. They are close and Bridgette is great to to work with. I went in with a few inspiration pics and she whipped up a small bouquet on the spot...it was exactly what I wanted! Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the tips. I'm a wee bit nervous because I don't have my gown or my BM's gowns yet. Should I wait until after I find these to hit florists?

If you know your colors it shouldn't really make a difference. You def have plenty of time though for flowers so don't stress.

Thanks. I am amazed at how easy it is to get overwhelmed by all of this!

As long as you have your date (so they know what is in season) and you can give them a color scheme you should be ok. Part of their job is to help you come up with ideas!

I brought pictures of centerpieces and bouquets I liked with the flowers I liked.
