OK so how do florist appts work? Do you go in and show them what you want and they make you a sample right there? Or do you have to go back and see it another time? And when do you book it, after you see the sample?Since I live OOS I'm trying to figure out florists appts and would really like it if I could get it all done in one shot.

Typically you go back and see a sample but I'm sure if you explained to them that you live OOS, they'd accomodate you....maybe not that day but perhaps in a day or two, they could have something ready for you to see.

I initially sent an email with some pictures of what I wanted. Some florist will even give you a roundabout quote via email. Then I made an appt to come in and meet. You could even ask to have a sample made for you ahead of time.
When I met with Rose the first time, I bought in pictures of what I wanted, we talked about the theme of the wedding and colors i was using and then took the pictures I had bought a reworked them to fit my vision and budget. Then she wrote up an estimate and we made an appt. for 2 weeks later to see a sample of the CP. When I went in to see the sample, she had a typed up contract (which can always change if I want to add or take away something) which she and I signed and I got to take my CP home with me.
It can definitely all be done in one shot though. Rose doesn't live too far from me so it was fine to have to go back to see the sample. Just when you initially contact for an appt, email the pic of the sample you would like to see and when you go in for the appt. they will have the sample ready for you.

Usually they ask u for pictures or ideas of what you want then they will make u a sample and have you come back to look at it

I went in w/ a cr@p ton of pictures and looked through the florists book... then he threw something together quick to give us a visual.
We decided on something and then I went back a couple weeks later to see a sample. I can also see a sample 2 weeks before the wedding.
With you being OOS i think if you call and tell the florist your situation they can make it work. I would offer them pictures and ideas that you have first and send those to them.
