Florists...when to book?

Florists...when to book?

Just curious how far in advance everyone booked their florists. I kind of stalled out during September and only have my hall and DJ and really want to have everything else booked by the end of October. My wedding is 10/10/04. I know I need to book photo/video fairly soon, but I'm not sure if it's too soon to book a florist.

Thanks!

Re: Florists...when to book?

I booked my florist a little over a year in advance. I just wanted to get it out of the way and know how much I would be spending. I think as long as you do it at least six months in advance you will be fine.

I've seen some brides book their vendors 2+ years in advance, so I don't think it's too early to book now. The early bride catches the worm!!

Book ASAP!! You don't have to choose the exact flowers yet - just get one! I suggest Flower Michele!

Thanks for the suggestion...my mother used to work for her, and needless to say, I will not be using Flower Michele. I just thought I had heard somewhere that most florists won't let you book that far in advance. Also, if you're not picking out your flowers right away, how do you know how much you're going to wind up spending?

I booked mine almost a year before my wedding.

I am soooo glad I did because she did a fantastic job!

I'd say ASAP.
I booked Flower Michele about a year in advance.

Re: Florists...when to book?

I booked my florist (Burton's) over a year in advance - I knew I was going to use them so I waisted no time to book them. My Wedding is July 4th, next year, and they told me to go and choose my flowers in April.

Re: Florists...when to book?

I just started calling florists for my July 4th wedding and while I had luck with most of them, Burtons was already totally booked. I never thought that I'd have a problem and I was totally shocked that I did!

Some florists do a ton of weddings a day while others only do 1 or 2. Jack & Rose has 4 locations and they only do 1 a day from each location. Flower Michele does 2 a day. On the other hand, Stefans told me that they can do a lot so I don't have to worry because they rarely are in a situation where they have to turn a job down. Just something to keep in mind...

Plus- once you book an appointment to see a florist, they usually hold the date for you until you go in and have a day or 2 to think about it.

The only reason I can think of not to book your florist ASAP is if the money is not available for a deposit. Otherwise, why not!

Good luck!

Re: Florists...when to book?

i saw my florist about 3 weeks ago and booked him.
But you know me.. im trying to get everything done like yesterday!!

September was pretty slow for me too. Busy doing other stuff - work related. End of year is tough on us. Beginning to wonder if I thought about work when i booked my wedding date, hehe.

I think I booked in March for my June '04 wedding. I went with ideas of what I wanted and shopped around and got estimates. You can start now because you don't have to exactly know everything you want. And the good florists tend to book up fast. Good Luck!

Re: Florists...when to book?

Thanks for all the responses. I'm not worried about the deposit, but I am worried about not knowing what I want and that changing over time (which it likely will) and then having the entire estimate change because I booked so far in advance. I'm going to start looking soon, at least to get some ideas of what types of flowers are being used in October and what looks the nicest this time of year.

Re: Florists...when to book?

I went to speak to the florist that I wanted in July for my Sept 2004 wedding so that I would know what flowers would cost us.
