flower advice?

flower advice?

So I have two more appointments with florists at the end of the month, and to say the least, I'm shocked at how much CP's cost from the last few I went to...I'm not hung up on any particular design or style or flower.

My wedding color is a plum/purple so I wanted the lilac colored roses, cream roses, some lisianthus and some stock purple fillers.....in a low CP.

and I've been getting quotes 100 per piece....I got one place to knock it down to 85 after I asked for military discount, but the original price was 100.

are roses expensive? is there a cheaper flower I should ask for?

any input is appreciated :)

i'm not expert on flowers but i told my flower place the cost i wanted and they told me what flowers were appropriate - i definatly wanted roses and i added babybreath in as a filler and not as expensive as other fillers. Also i added hydrangias to make it fuller.
Hope this helps a bit :)

yeah maybe i'm just gonna go in with a bottom line price per each CP. honestly, I'm not stuck on any flower just want something decent..the giant windows at the swan club over look beautiful gardens so I don't need anything fancy...

ohh baby's breath is very pretty and I didn't even think about that as a filler :) awesome!

Roses aren't as expensive as people think because they're popular for weddings and so mass produced. The florists should be able to tel you what is in season, buying local is cheaper.

If you buy a flower that has to be flown in, you'll typically have to pay for the minimum amount they have to order, rather then pay for just what you need.

Flowers like hydrangeas are expensive but because they're so full, you use less of them so typically it should even out.

iit adds a nice touch to hair :)

that is awesome and sounds so nice

after the florist gives you the price tell them what you want to pay. You will be surprised but they may say ok!

I told the Florist that I am working with that I got a quote that was much less than what they told me and that I would sign then and there if they matched it. Well they matched it!

Mara, maybe it's the lawyer in you? lol but totally awesome deal!

My new goal is to not be afraid to ask them to match a price or perhaps do a better deal because it is a competitive market and i'm sure they mark it up knowing people will try to negotiate....

....I even hate asking for military discounts but FH would kill me if I didn't lol

It never hurts to ask. Especially since you are going to these places a year and a half out. Remember it is a guaranteed contract for them. They are usually willing to not make as much money but know that they have a job for the day.

You have to remember we do have the upper hand.

Re: flower advice?

you're 100% right. I'm definitely going into the next two appointments ready to make some deals. i'm sure you guys will be hearing about how that goes

Re: flower advice?

go into the appointment knowing exactly what you want to pay.

And use every possible discount that you can.

My FH is a police officer and alot of places give discounts for that. FH gets made when I forget to tell vendors that!

I typically refuse to ask for mil discounts, but with how expensive wedding stuff is I think i'll ask. I asked Jen for my Bpix and she said she'd give me 5% off, every penny helps!

I feel weird asking, but I swear DF would ask EVERYWHERE. I used to feel weird. but with him deployed, even 5% is about what tax is...it adds up!!!

and I saved 300 with my photographer for mil, 10% for most florist quotes.....good to know the bpic will do them. I was thinking of getting them done too.

Def tell the florist what you want to spend and they will tell you what they can do for that amount of money. By the way roses inexpensive.

I told my florist what I wanted to spend and what I wanted. She then worked with my budget to come up with something similar to what I had envisioned. She also gave us suggestions on how we could do things to keep the total amount down.
