I know I have a ton of time to think about this, but my mind can't stop planning :) I am not sure if I am even going to have floral centerpieces -- I may just do candles in large hurricane vases or something because I think the money may be better spent, in our case, on the band -- but if we do get flower centerpieces, I am going to go with something simple and cheap that still makes a statement. Such as a dozen gladiolas in a large vase that is fluted at the top, or a dozen snapdragons. I can get either arrangement for less than $30 per table with a discount I have.
What do you think? Pics are below. Mine would be in fall colors - burgandy, yellow and orange. Snaps are first then the gladiolas.
Come to think of it.... I like the idea of hurricane vases too!
How much will the vases and candles wind up costing? $30 for flowers sound great!
That's the thing - if I go through a wholesaler for the candles and vases, the cost would probably be $10-20 a table. So I am only saving $100 - $200 -- I think the flowers are a much more powerful statement ... is it worth it? I am not sure.

Well, if the $100/$200 can go towards something else, and you can live without the flowers, then stick w/ the candles.
On the other hand if you really want to make more of a statement with the flowers when the room is all put together, then the extra $100/$200 will be well spent.
IMHO

I agree -- and I thought at first that the money I'd save wasn't going to help with the band, since it's not that much ... BUT if I save $200 on centerpieces, $200 on a photog., $200 on something else ... I will soon have the money I need for the band.
I am thinking now, if I did something like the twig one above but replace the twigs with a large pillar, that would make an AMAZING centerpiece. Love the little votives all around!!!
I used to sell partylite, wonder if I could get some great candles from someone still .... on the cheap ...

The twigs in a large pillar would be cool and still have a presence b/c it'll be tall. I was going to say that votives would look awesome as well.

Are you using the in-house florist at fox hollow? I really like the gladiolas. You could really dress it up by tying ribbon around the vases and puting votives all around on the tables. I think $30 a piece is a great deal.

Not using the in house florist, no. I actually work at a company owned by a floral retailer .... so I can get stuff at wholesale prices. BUT, anyone really can do that, if you buy flowers at a wholesaler. Centerpieces like these, with gladiolas, are actually easy to make and do on your own, the day before. FM me if you want info!
