I don't really think it matters... I was almost 9 when I was one for my sister. If you have junior BMs then the youngest should be the FG.. I have 3 JR.BMs and 2 FGs.. :)

Re: Flower Girl and Ring Bearer
It really shouldn't matter, just remember if they will act their age.
they can be cry the entire time
they can refuse to walk entirely
they can run tthe other way, or run in circles
they can stare blankly and stand there
So ask yourself, do you think this child could handle the responsibilty?
And if they can't, can you live with it?
My bridal party is only children I'm totally non-traditional and if the kid messes up, its cute and I love it!
My future sister in law warned me her little one could have a bad day and decide not to walk at all, that was totally fine with me. I would be happy that she would be wearing the cute little dress I picked out and running around happy somewhere.
Talk to the parents, they know their kids best.
ETA: Yikes! I almost said sister in law.. not yet .. not yet ... whew..

They can be any age you want...but I wouldn't expect too much from them if they're young. I've seen a lot of kids cry and run away. My RB will be 5 and my FG will be 2 at our wedding. I'm just happy to include them and whatever happens happens on that day.

theres no set age, they dont have to be a particular age, i would think theres a cut off age though where its not a FG anymore but a jr bm.
My fg just turned 3 a few short weeks before our wedding and our rb was 2 1/2
they did so well too, i didnt expect much from them bc they are so young. I didnt care if they would've run down the aisle or done whatever bc no matter what they wouldve been cute lol. But they walked hand in hand nice down the aisle, even at the RH when the couples were asked to join after our first dance, on their own they came on the dancefloor and slowdanced together, it was adorable.
Even at the rehearsal, we practiced about 3x and each time they listened and walked down the aisle just fine.

Re: Flower Girl and Ring Bearer
We have this thing in my family...if they can walk they're in! LOL I'm thinking of using my little cousin (she's going to be 19mths old when my wedding comes up.
You could always have the parent or someone else the child adores kneeling at the end of the aisle beckoning the little one to them. Or you could always decorate a wagon and have your Jr. BMs or the RB pull it down the aisle with your FG in it.
I was 3 at my mother and step father's wedding and scared to death to walk down the aisle. I had a couple of false starts but the pictures they have were sooooo cute.
ETA: the few words I missed. LOL

Re: Flower Girl and Ring Bearer
My little flower girl is turning 1! I had to have her she is my first niece- so I paired the RB (5) with my little cousin who is 4, and my niece will be coming in with her mother (she doesn't walk yet). I had to have in my bridal party.
Just choose who you want in your bridal party.

No, I don't think that's too young at all!
Have the RB and FG get close now... that's what I'm trying b/c I want him to walk down in the middle of both FGs...one on each of his arms~ AWW
But they bearly know eachother now.. So I'm having all these little games and such to get them familuar with eachother by April!!
