My mom likes wreaths on flower girls. I DO NOT LIKE THEM NOR DO I WANT THEM!!! I was also under the impression that they are for spring weddings and not for formal Saturday night functions. Any thoughts?

Tell your mom you don't like how it looks and leave it at that.
I can't imagine that getting to be too big of an issue?!

Re: Flower girl issues
She is just impossible and relentless. She started with me about flowers and colors yesterday and I came to a conclusion. When it comes to aesthetics, Ed and I will go in advance to any florist we see, develop a 'united front.' Then we will explain that we and my mother have differences of opinion. When we have our 'official' appointment, the florist will know NOT to show us things that we don't like OR to say 'it isn't really done anymore' just to avoid public drama.
Mom has her ideas and unfortunately her line of 'All I am good for is writing the checks...' Is getting old. Yesterday I told her not to bother writing any checks and that I will elope. She already had her wedding which my grandparents paid for. Knowing what type of woman she is, I know that she would not have allowed her mother to choose the aesthetic aspects of her wedding (i.e. flowers). She had her day... I should have mine - she did the same thing to my sister 15 years ago and made her cry on more than one occasion.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, but the advance appointment idea is great!

Reminds me of how I dealt with my MIL. She changes her mind like it's her job (no seriously, you'd think she gets paid every time she changes her mind). I had a lovely little conversation with our florist ahead of time so that he knew the score before she came in. Thankfully, that was all she offered to help with.

Re: Flower girl issues
It kills me to be deceptive, but in my case it is a matter of survival. I have been 'compromising' about certain aspects of the wedding in order to appease mom. This way I can never be accused of being close minded. When I need to be firm, I am afraid I'll break. I don't want to be embarrassed so unfortunately, a meeting beforehand will have to take place. I KNOW this can't be the first time. I am an older bride and she is a much older mother of the bride - recipe for disaster. She wants to plan as if it is a Bat Mitzvah, and I want an elegant formal dinner party that just happens to have a bride and groom there.

I agree with you -when you say you think of wreaths for spring weddings, not formal Saturday night weddings. Tell you mom that if she insists the flower girl wear a wreath, then you insist the whole bridal party go barefoot.
