Flower girls - How young is too young?
Re: Flower girls - How young is too young?
My friend had one that was 22 months. She made it about three steps down the aisle, went back to her mom who tried to walk her down and then she had enough and sat down on the ground. I think younger then 2 is too young.

my niece is almost 18 months old and my mother would love to have her be the flower girl, but there is no way that she'd be able to focus long enough to get down an 80 foot long aisle. My mom even tried practicing with her and after about 5 steps she loses total interest and stops and just starts laughing at everyone looking at her.

My son is 2 years old and would not walk down the aisle by himself. He walked down with my mom instead. I think under the age of 3 is too young

I really dont care about it being perfect. The truth of the matter is that since I am last down the aisle, that i won't see anything. If they make it they make it. If they don't they dont. But I think to put a family at an expense for a FG dress that she might have an accident in and not use at all might be asking too much.

I wanted to ask my MOH to decide for herself if she thought her daughter would be up to the task. She may feel bad about saying no. The other issue will be when I tell my mother I want to ask an 18 month old. She thinks its too young. Yes I know it is my day, but mom like to throw the line 'But I am paying for the' around. It could get ugly.

Is this bad??...My flower girl will be 9 yrs old
Re: Flower girls - How young is too young?
I really think it depends on the child. I've seen toddlers who are just fine and five year olds who just won't do it. Do you really want her to be a part of the wedding, or is it because she's the only little girl around? I wouldn't have one just to have one JMO
Re: Flower girls - How young is too young?
No, I already have another flower girl. It would be great to have her as part of the bridal party and had she been 2 or three, there would be no question. So it is NOT just to have one. The other flower girl will be 2 months shy of three years old at the time of the wedding and has already been a flower girl. In fact, when I asked her to be MY flower girl, she asked her mother to get out the silk petals to practice all over again and started throwing flowers on the floor.

I think you are right. I still feel bad about not having her. My friends need to breed a little faster don't you think?

I wanted to make my brothers daughters (12 and 14 at the wedding) Jr Bridesmaids but my brother asked me to cut the Jr out because they would feel more mature. I said it was fine. I will not, however, put teenaged girls in sexy dresses. They will NOT wear anything strapless or body hugging. I think it is inappropriate.
Re: Flower girls - How young is too young?
My nephew was 18 months at our wedding, and we decided not to include him in the wedding party. I think we made the right decision. Besides him being sick with a fever that day, he was delayed in his motor development and wasn't walking at all yet.

I agree with the opinion that it depends on the child, but I would say no younger than 4. My friend had her 2-3 y.o cousin and the child was so disruptive during the mass, and then a big PITA when it came time for photos (according to the bride, I wasn't there.) I didn't want kids in my wedding, but another reason I didn't ask is that my 6 y.o. niece would have behaved wonderfully, where my 4 y.o. niece would not.
