Flower Help (a little long)

Flower Help (a little long)

Hi All... I have an issue with flowers.....I basically have none!!
Christmas Eve, FH and I had people over to the house and his uncle, who does a lot of business with a particular florist, gave us the name and number of the owner and said to call him and tell him when we were getting married and that Uncle Charlie referred us.
My FH called the florist in January and told him the above. The florist told FH that once we picked out our colors that we should contact him and he would give us the 'deluxe package' at the basic package price. I wasn't thrilled only because I knew my main color was going to be chocolate, but I wanted to base the coordinating color on the flower choices with the best price. Anyhow - it was a 'gift' and if I was saving money.....I was happy.
I chose my coordinating color (pinks) and FH called the florist back to let him know and see when we can make an appointment to meet. The florist told us that he just needed to get through Easter and asked that we call him back right after the holiday. I thought it was reasonable enough, so I waited. I called him back the week after Easter and he told me he was busy with mother's day and he said, 'I will have my wife call you after mother's day'. We never received the call and we waited three weeks after mother's day before we broke down and called again, but we couldn't get a hold of the owner, so we left a voice message. We have left two more since then to no avail. In addition we spoke to FH's uncle who also left word for the florist, but we haven't heard anything.
FH's uncle said that the guy was definitely going to help us out, but that he was busy and would call within a few weeks.
At the risk of sounding selfish...I now feel a bit inconvenienced by the florists 'favor'. FH and I discussed and we are going to graciously turn down the florist should he ever call us back. My fear is that since he is doing us a favor he may not put much effort into it and what happens if my flowers look dead or something else? In addition, the florist never told us what we were getting nor did he give us an actual price, so I don't even know for sure if he is saving us all that much.
Now for the reason I need help (sorry so long )
I have not researched flowers that much since I thought it would be the easiest part. Are pink flowers expensive in October? If I am looking for 15 centerpieces, ceremony flowers (not extravagant), 1 bride BQ, 5 BM bouquets and 5 boots for the guys....would it be more or less than 3K. Any suggested vendors? Thanks so much for your help!

I have no vendors that I've used (I'm not up to that part yet), but I'd take the suggestions that the LIW ladies give you and tell those florists what you just told us (the last paragraph). You have x to spend and you need y centerpieces, z bouquets, etc. If they can't give it to you, move on. They will find something in your budget and if you don't like it, go to the next one.

We have a similar situation with a friend of the family who was a jeweler and going to help us with our e-ring. We got tired of waiting for them to make time for us and moved on. I honestly don't think we would have saved much if we went with them and they didn't seem to care either way.

FH's godfather is a florist, and he will be doing our flowers. We asked him in March when was the best time to meet with him, and he said after Mother's Day, so we waited for a couple of months. I wouldn't hold it against the florist that he's making you wait...he probably is legitimately busy.

To answer your question about colors...the color of the flower shouldn't cost more, it's the type of flower that usually costs more. at least that's my understanding of the way flowers work...I could be wrong.

definitely post what you need on vendors helping brides. I did that for flowers and ended up going with Flower Barn in Seaford. They were great and i booked them less than two months before the wedding.

Re: Flower Help (a little long)

its going to be more about teh flower type than the color. I think gerber daisys are in season in the fall and they come in pink. Also, roses are year round and tend to be less money as they are easier to get.

Some popular florists on here are:

Flower Michele
Burtons (i used them- link to my review in my profile)
Pedastals
Florisan
Flower barn
Bella Flowers

There are more listed in the vendors section.

Good luck!!! Im sure you will find someone to work in your budget and give you beautiful flowers!!!

This is why I refused to use any family friends for vendors.

Call Jenn at Verbena Designs. She is very helpful and talented. Hopefully she will be able to help you....she only does one wedding a day. She is a vendor on here.

Thanks Everyone for responding. I think I am going to check out Flower Barn and Verbena. I was afraid that I was running out of time, but I guess I am still ok.

Thanks Again!
