Flower question:

This is one of the BM dresses, they are all the same color (apple/darker hue of red). I would like to incorporate calla lillies as the main flowers and was thinking of having contrasting colors. So I would have a red calla lilly bouquet, and they - white. What does the groom and the groomsmen wear? Would the groom have to match me and have red calla's and the groomsmen - white callas?

But then the groomsmen will look more bridal then the groom, no?

How are you coordinating your flowers?

Re: Flower question:

Sounds beautiful. I would put the groomsmen in a red calla bouts and the groom in white. The white calla wont match your bouquet but will match your dress.

Just as a word of information: red callas' (aka black beauties) are very dark and look almost black in photos. I absolutely LOVE them and used them in my bouquet and for my husbands bout but I know some people dont like how dark they look.

Take a look at my photos to see what I mean.

Re: Flower question:

By the way - callas are VERY expensive.

Re: Flower question:

Stef, would they look black even in the color photos during the day?

I know calla's are expensive, but I was thinking of using fewer flowers, and not having the full round bouquets, but rather long and slim kind, maybe a version of this for me, except, more red and less pink?

Re: Flower question:

Stef, for the calla prices, I have read somewhere that they're b/w 8-12 each, is that correct?

Re: Flower question:

Alina - what pretty bridesmaid dresses! Who makes those?

Re: Flower question:

WishCandy, these are from David's Bridal, and only one of the BM's will wear this style - my sister, who'll also be the maid of honor. Here are some others that girls have picked:

Re: Flower question:

B/c of the price of callas, I'm only using them:
1. groom's bout w/ berries(gm will wear roses and berries)
2. My bouquet
3. MOH bouquet
4. MOB and MIL's clutches

Re: Flower question:

You should check with your florist and see if there is a red colored calla lily. I also wanted to use reds for my bouquet but I did not think there were red calla lillies or they're very rare - only pinkish-mauve color or the dark burgandy/blackish color. From a couple florist I talked to there is not a red calla lily and with the mauve calla lilies you can't be guaranteed the shade that it will come in lighter pink or deeper mauve.

I'm going to go with primarily red orchids instead.

Good luck.

Re: Flower question:

The calla lilly posted above is not red but pink or mauve. The one I used is considered burgandy but just really a dark red color.

I used the 'mini' callas so they might appear more dark than the larger ones but they should be the same general shade:

I dont know how much they cost each but my original plan was to use them in the centerpeices and it was just too expensive for that.

Re: Flower question:

There are red calla lillies - they actually come in a numerous amount of colors. There was an edition of a Martha Stewart catalog (I think it was the Spring issue of this year) where they displayed pages and pages of flowers in a array of different colors. And they showed red callas.
Alina - thanks so much for posting those dresses - I wasn't planning on going to David's Bridal, but now I'm definitely gonna go in to check it out. =)

Re: Flower question:

Oh, I see what you mean, they do look really dark.

Maybe then I'll also mix them with roses, and have the white calla/red rose and black calla / white rose for the girls? Can this be done is a less full version?
I have a picture saved but its more than 50K and I don't know how to resize!!!

Re: Flower question:

Wish Candy, just don't have the girls do the alterations at davids... Oh, and they almost never have size 2 in stock, and only a few styles in 4 (based on my experience with brooklyn, NJ and Phila davids bridals)
