Flowers by Burton - whoah

So since we were going to the Bridal Extravaganza in Melville yesterday, we made our appt. with Flowers By Burton too.

*This is NOT meant to offend anyone that has used Burton's or will be using them in the future.*

Well, they were nice enough to accomodate us even though we were late for our appt (BAD LIE traffic), but I have to say, I was not thrilled with our meeting. Besides the fact that she started off by saying that she wouldn't deliver to Manhattan (which is where I live and where the church is - but later said they'd do it for a higher delivery charge), the most important thing is price and they were over $1,000 more than Verbena Designs for the SAME EXACT thing. They were even more than the most expensive quote we got which was from Flowers By Brian - Burton's was about $400 more than them! She suggested that I could save $100 by having her deliver all my church flowers so that I can have someone take them to the church, put them on at the altar and on all the pews (um NO). She also said that she won't guarantee that they'll put flowers on the cake, but they will at least drop them off so that someone at the hall can do it.

Wow, I was really really shocked. I have read tons of reviews on here that say how Burton's is so reasonable because they don't charge by flower type, just by the amount of flowers. Well, I am using Hydrangeas which are my favorite flower, but if you're familiar with them, you know that they are very full flowers so you don't need as many stems of hydrangeas to fill out a centerpiece or bouquet as you would with roses or anything else.

The reason I'm posting this is so that you all hear a different perspective. I'm sure they're great - and actually one of the pictures I brought as an example was made by them! - but they don't NECESSARILY charge you less than every other vendor. So moral of the story, don't just go by reviews on here or elsewhere - make sure you MEET with your vendors before booking (I know some girls have posted about booking vendors because they've heard they're great!).

I'm not. At all. They told me the same thing about delivery...to St. James. They told me it was inconvenient for them to deliver and set up a church on Sunday so they would charge me more if I made them do it. What?

I did. I kinda wish I had met with the guy there (I met with Barbara and she was very nice, but I've heard how he will really work with your budget and has great ideas etc).

Wow!!! Thanks for the heads up!! I actually just heard last night (from a trustworthy source) that Burtons is very expensive and I was shocked too b/c I was planning on checking them out since I heard that they were so 'cheap' from all the reviews on here!!

Is Flower Michele really affordable? Do you mind FM'ing some prices? Thanks!

I second you meeting with John from Flower Michele. I went to Burtons too hearing all the great reviews from all the girls on the boards. No disrepect at all to Burtons but I felt like I was just another number and the person i met with didn't care one way or another about my business. Flower Michele was about $100 more than Burtons but John was so personable and so friendly and easy to talk to about we wanted and it was such an enjoyable experience. And last night at the bridal show, FH and I walked over by his display and he saw us and he actually waved to us and made a mention that I was the martini bride (we're doing martini centerpieces since we're doing a martini themed wedding). I couldn't believe he actually remembered me and that made me feel so happy that we booked them. I'm sure Burtons is wonderful but they aren't for everyone. I'd definitely check out Flower Michele.

I had just the opposite experience with Burtons, They quoted me several hundred less than my best quote and another fourist. (sp?) I dont know if it's becuase I dont need them to do my center pieces, or if Im not having my ceremony at a church, its all at my hall. But They gave me exactly what I want, and the suggestions they made to me for arangements for the ceremony where exactly what I brough in pictures of before I showed it to them. I guess they are not on their game all the time. but I had a good experience with them.

I ended up cancelling my appt with Burtons because i went to Verbena Design first and i have to say Jennifer was great, patient and would not go over my budget even when i started mentioning things...and she did my CP for less than half of what my original florist was gonna charge me...so if you havent booked i would suggest you try Verbena Design

YES! I loved Jennifer (in my original post I mentioned that Verbena was over $1,000 LESS than the Burton's quote). We are just shopping around to be 100% sure, but we loved her and that she was able to work within our budget and made some great suggestions.

He works will all budgets. I have seen him do a wedding for as little as 1600 and it was great.
