flying during pregnancy?

flying during pregnancy?

Are you allowed to fly if you're pregnant? I've heard 2 different things. One friend said you couldn't fly during the first and third trimester and my sister said the opposite that you couldn't fly during the 2nd trimester. I have an opportunity to go to Aruba in July and while I'm not PG now, I'm hoping!!!! Does anyone know?

Barring complications, you can definitely fly during pregnancy, up until you're too uncomfortable to do so. Most doctors will recommend not flying during your 9th month, and some airlines will require a doctor's note to verify the due date of passengers who are visibly pregnant, to ensure that they are not too close to their due date. (Each airline has different rules...Delta, for example, allow flying up until 7 days prior to your due date). Other than the last month or two, the worst time to fly is probably during your first trimester, when you're more apt to become nauseous, and when the baby's new life is at it's most precarious.

Any time you do fly while pregnant, you need to be extra vigilant about standing up and stretching/walking every 30-45 minutes and drinking plenty of fluids.

Re: flying during pregnancy?

I flew @ 12 weeks and passed out upon arrival at the airport. The flight was only 2.5 hours. There is a question as to what caused it - 1 dr said dehydration from the air pressure change even though I drank 2 32oz waters during the flight and another said it was from standing in one spot too long on the line to immigration. I don't know but it scared me enough that for the next 5 months I'm only traveling by car!

I flew to NY 2 weeks ago at 32 weeks. It's only a 2 hr flight from Chicago to NY. My doctor told me to make sure I drank lots of water bc you can become dehydrated. I also wore slip on shoes so I can take my shoes off. If it's a long flight try to walk around a little.

I just got back from Vegas (18 weeks) and I am going to Turks and caicos in 3 weeks.

Dr. said to just drink a lot of water and get up every hour and walk around.

I don't think I will be traveling at all in the 3rd trimester - but that is personal preference.

My Dr told me it was fine up til the last month
(I guess it also depends on your pregnancy health)
I flew at about 14 weeks,
and will be flying again at 23 weeks,
and then at about 26 weeks!!!
I am not worried and thankfully the flight is only about 1 hour and a half.
Just remember to drink lots of water,
but thats always especially when pregnant!!!!

good luck with TTCing

I will also be flying to Rochester (only and hour flight though) in my 30th week!

My doctor said the last 4 weeks they don't like you to fly.
