Flying First Class on your honeymoon

For me, it would depend how long is the flight and how much more it would cost. If it was less then 3 hours, I would deal with it and get an upgraded room for the HM. If it was a longer flight, I would upgrade.

Going to Cancun, Mexico. It is as of now about 650 each coach, upgrading to first class would be about $1,075 each. We are going to an all inclusive resort there so we won't be spending too much money there. I am only hesitating because it will come out of our 'house' fund, but I guess $2,500 ish is not THAT big a deal, right?!?!?!

For us it was so worth it BUT definitely definitely do it at the airport.

We booked coach for our 20 hour flight to Bali, got on the plane and reallized there was no way we could do it!

We spend $4K to upgrade our entire trip to business class. A small fortune but totally worth it!! We were able to recline and sleep and were rested when we arrived and got home. Had we upgraded before being at the airport it would have been closer to $8k.

For a short flight I say save your money but anything over 8 hours of so I think it's worth it.

I wanted to upgrade to first class but I look at the price its almost 400 extra each to upgrade and we are only going to Jamaica for 3 hrs it wasnt worth it for us

What would you say the chances are to upgrade while at the airport, meaning availability?

I guess some of that depends on where you are going but I think it would be pretty good.

You could probably call ahead and see how full first or business class are.

We had no problem upgrading at the airport either time but our upgrade was pricey so I don't know how many people were willing to do it.

seeing as our honeymoon is going to cost us probably around 4g with coach seats on the plane, as of now we're not upgrading.

i flew to spain (9.5 hour flight) in a middle seat in coach once with the people on either side of me leaning on me.. after that trip i think i'd be able to last thru anything.

when i was younger and got stuck sitting in the emergency exit aisle with my father he told the stewardess that the only way we would move was to first class.. so we got a nice free upgrade since kids aren't allowed in those aisles.

man if only i were 14 again.. maybe well get a free honeymoon upgrade!

i actually just called the airlines and it worked out nicely. just a few hundred total more. we are going first class there, and flying coach (but sitting in a 2 seater) on the way home.

We are going to try to upgrade if we can. We off course, would never pay for it.

Good luck! I'm learning that many things in life are NOT for free. I'm also not a very good negotiator in that sense.

For the price difference you quoted it is probably worth it. We went to Paris and fist class would have been like 10k!!!!

we got an amex skymiles card for this purpose only. I want us to charge whatever we can up until the honeymoon in hopes of using the miles to upgrade, we will be fine to upgrade on the way there, not sure about the way home yet. we didnt want to charge anything for the wedding, so we charge it and then use the 'wedding fund' to pay it off in full. really no difference as we wouldve been spending that $ anyway. its worth a look to those of you who are interested.

We're trying to earn the miles for the upgrade for our honeymoon. We're flying to Barcelona so this would be a great deal but it would cost about $6500 to outright buy the tix. American Airlines has an amazing miles program and are running a deal now that if you sign up for a Citibank AAdvantage Mastercard, in addition to the 1 mile/$1 for all purchases, you get 12,500 miles just for getting the card! If you and your FH both got the card, that 25,000 miles right there toward your upgrade! I'd go the miles route rather than paying.

we are going to Hawaii, not only do we both feel that we are only going to do this once, FH is 6'5' so going first class for such a long flight is worth it!! luckily we have ALOT of flyer miles!! i would go for it

FH flies a ton for business, so we were able to get business class tix roundtrip to Italy using points

I think we will fly coach going to Greece- long flight and try upgrade on the way home.

Re: Flying First Class on your honeymoon

Darn, we booked through American Airlines, so there goes the idea of opening a credit card! I am sure I can't do it towards something I just purchased should I open a card now. Oh well.
