In Patricks 20 months of life he has been to Ireland 3 times & Oregon twice!!!!

At the age of 1 they are still pretty good (mind you both my flights were 6+ hours long! So Florida will be a breeze)

Best advise:
When you are flying off & landing make sure Aidan is either drinking a bottle or s^cking on a dodi. That will prevent their ears from hurting.
If you want to be extra cautious give him a small dose of tylenol before you leave.

Take some things that Aidan loves to keep him busy.

Even if it's warm out carry a light blanket just in case it's chilly on the plane.

Never go anywhere without Cheerios!!

Have an extra bottle w/ water. sometimes the planes are VERY dry.

I think that's about it!!!

We flew w/Paul from San Francisco to New York when he was only 3 and 1/2 months old, and then we flew again when he was 6 and 1/2 months old and both time were a breeze, but I was very careful about making sure he was drinking or sukking on a Binky during take-off and landing.

We also stayed in a hotel w/him for 2 nights right before we moved. Since your baby is almost 1 year, you'll need to borrow a crib from the hotel. Bring along one of the baby's freshly washed crib pads and sheets - your baby will appreciate the familiar smell of home, even though it's a strange crib.

Also bring along a few of your baby's 'creature comforts' - favorite toys, blankets, Binkies, etc. A good idea is to also bring a brand new toy that might do a really great job of distracting the child, if he becomes cranky. Nothing works better than something new to explore!

Bring plenty of water - planes do tend to dehydrate people. Try to keep the baby's diet consistent, even though you will be traveling - this is not the time to try a new food and upset his/her tummy.

Bring a cheap umbrella stroller to check in - these are only like $13, so if the schmucky airline breaks it, you won't cry!

Lastly, call your airline NOW and ask what the requirements are for a safety/booster seat for your baby. Infants are required to be in infant carriers that are FAA approved. I don't know for sure what the requirements are for a toddler, since we haven't traveled w/Paul since he outgrew the infant seat.

Try to have fun, even though it can be a little stressful to travel with a young child!

Thanks so much for the gret advice-- I am so nervous about this trip -- I just picture Aidan screaming on the plane and everyone staring at me !! LOL

Even if he does scream. DO not feel embarrased. I hate when people give looks. They are babies this is how they communicate DEAL W/ IT!!

I used to travel for business ALL the time and one thing I always thought helped parents was leaving at night, when the baby was sleeping. I know my parents also did this when my little brother was around 10 and they had to go to Vegas. He would sleep on the plane instead of needing things to do the whole time.
