FMIL

anyone else have a FMIL that drives them crazy!? My boyfriend and I aren't even engaged yet and shes already going insane. Every two minutes she brings up that she doesnt like the cut of diamond i like (he and i have been ring shopping) Im really against getting married in a church, I'm only doing it for my father and we're only doing a ceremony i wanna get out of there ASAP lol. She told my bf that shes so upset I don't want a full mass and how can I not want one after going to catholic school for so man years. She then trys to tell me that my bf and I should start trying for kids right away because when she was my age (23) she already had one and was prego with the next. I want kids and granted we won't be getting married for awhile but thank you lately ill plan it when im comfortable not when you feel i should. UGH shes driving me up the wall

Oh, I have the opposite problem - apparently my FMIL does not want me procreating with her son! No skin off my back, though, we agreed on no kids (at least for a long time) anyway!

Re: FMIL

thats awful! she hasn't made me cry yet, she just makes me want to strangle her lol. She likes me a lot but shes beyond overbearing and sometimes i feel like she thinks shes a better parent than mine. She has only two boys and shes one of those old school almost sterotypical italian mothers, she cannot bare the thought of 'losing' her sons.
my last birthday my parents were in florida they have a house in west palm, my mom asked me a million times if i wanted them to fly back up for my birthday and i said no i truly didnt mind and i meant it! one less family obligation lol, so in my birthday card that my FMIL gave me she wrote

'happy birthday we wanted you to be surrounded by people who love you on your birthday like us'

my mother read it and was VERY offended. I'm not sure if she meant it the way it looked and sounded but my mom is pretty ticked off lol

Yea, that birthday line was totally a dig at your Mom, and that was terrible of her ...

The devastation of losing her son is not just an Italian thing, trust me! haha! I am fully Italian and FM is zero Italian - FMIL apparently thinks I'm taking her little boy away from her - Get over it, Lady, he moved out before we started dating!

Re: FMIL

Uggh I'm sorry you're going through that...I'm lucky that my FMIL is very sweet and knows better than to try and push her opinions too much on how we should do our wedding, but I can definitely sympathize with the 'taking my baby away' attitude.

She's a single mother and I'm marrying her first-born son who she's always leaned on for support, so she's said some things to me that I know was only half-joking about me stealing him from her. She's been better about it lately though, thank goodness!

:::sigh::: what a relief! it's not just me! it sounds like all of you are dating my FH!
There have been numerous situations with her, but this one takes the cake. A few weeks before FH and I got engaged, she knew he had the ring (obvi, i didn't know)... me, my mom, & FMIL were at a girls dinner. FMIL started to tell us that she never thought my FH would get married bc he was sooo in love with his ex and he will never love anyone else like that again. Then she tells me he BOUGHT his ex a ring but then he dumped her bc she was cheating. She finished it off with 'if that didn't happen, he would still be with her now'
Well you could imagine that nearly 5 years into my relationship and not knowing he bought a ring for another girl- i was devastated- utterly heartbroken and i cried-hysterically. Turns out- it NEVER happened! he never even talked about marriage with her. When FH confronted FMIL, she goes, 'I never said that!'

sorry for the vent!!! i figured you girls could understand my feelings though!

OMG!!! I am beyond pi$$Ed for you!! She just made my psycho FMIL look angelic!!

My FMIL is hysterical. She and her children have this crazy relationship where they will say anything and everything infront of eachother. The other day we were talking about the dvd player. She said yeah why bc you only go downstairs to have sex?????? you think i dont know you.. im pretty sure i turned REDDD.. Another day we were talking about how big someones boobs were and she was like 'to row boat?' We didnt realize what she was talking about until i said you mean 'motor boat' again i turned red

OMG HOW AWFUL!!!!! What a ***** pardon my language. She makes mine seem so innocent lol. Yesterday my FH and I had a big family dinner at his house for his grandmothers bday and during dinner all of the sudden his mother and gma decided to tell me that we should seriously start considering kids and that my fh isn't getting any younger. Hes 8 years old than I am. Not only was I pretty offended by A. we're only in the looking and pricing out rings stage. B my FH is a teacher and may not have his job next year despite being tenured AND I am only 23 i am NO WHERE near ready to think about kids. UGGGGGGH lol

All of these stories can be quite comical actually! We should compile a book of 'do's and don'ts of mother-in-laws!
