FMIL advice...

FMIL advice...

So, FMIL brought up to FH the subject of buying my day of earrings for me. Except that my dad is a jeweler and he really wanted to make my DOJ. FH explained that to the FMIL...that my dad is going to make all of my jewelry for the day of.

So, he gets a phone call today...and it's FMIL telling him that she went out and bought me earrings to wear at the wedding. I have no idea what they look like since she never brought up the topic with my directly. So, she wants me to wear her earrings at the wedding....even though she knew I was planning on wearing my dad's jewelry.

I know she means well...and it was a really kind gesture and I'm grateful for the gift...but my dad was so looking forward to making me earrings (i'm not going to wear a necklace...so it'll be the only piece of jewelry I'm wearing).

How do I let her down gently and tell her that I don't want to wear them....

I think the only thing to do is to be honest and explain to her how much you appreciate the thought of her buying the earings, but your father has already taken care of it for you.

as a parent she should understand. and maybe you can wear them to the rehersal dinner to show how much you appreciated the gesture.

i would just tell her you have a certain idea in mind and you really want to wear the ones from your dads store. Tell her you appreciate the offer but you really want the other ones. If that doesnt work tell her its your wedding and youll wear what you want lol if being nice fails being nasty...always works

Althought it was nice of her to get you earings, knowing your dad wanted to make them is sorta stepping on his toes a bit...IMO

It is really strange that she even went ahead and did it anyway.

I would maybe let FH let her down easy and see how whe reacts.

Does yuor Dad know, if so- was he upset?
