How do I have my fmil not wear skanky dresses to my eparty? I told her I would come with her to look but she said she wanted to wear a dress she already had. This woman runs out and buys outfits but for her own sons eparty she wont buy something new? Well anyways her dresses are low cut and not appropriate for our party. The first time she met my parents she wore the worst dress-I cannot have that happen again. How would you handle this situation? She thinks she looks so young-but really doesn't. I would like her to wear age appropriate attire. How can I tell her that????

Re: FMIL attire help
Ummm...that's tough girl. Unless you find something you'd like for her maybe online and show her. Say I saw this dress that would look sooo nice on you. See if she takes the bait??
Where is your party?
Otherwise.... it's more his job to say something. It's his mom, right? Maybe he could nicely say... ' Hey Mom, we don't want to hurt your feelings but sometimes you dress inappropriately and I don't want people to have bad feelings about you because you're better than that and we want you to look your best blah blah blah '
Unless she's the type of woman who doesn't give a crap about other people's opinions. Then... you may just be screwed.
But.. I hope it works out. Look online... email her some cute outfits that you approve.
Good Luck!

Re: FMIL attire help
i would either have FH say sumthing to her basically telling her that he doesnt want her wearing a dress that is revealing...or maybe look around and find a dress that is really nice not revealing but also looks like a younger person would wear it and then tell her that you found it and love it and you want her to wear it!

OMG... this is a tough situation! I think you should be more worried about what she will wear to your wedding
I agree with the previous posters. Maybe you can search for things online and email them to her or print them out. Suggest going shopping with her again. If all else fails, make FH say something to her! She'll never change if you don't say something now to her, and there'll be plenty more events where she may wear something inappropriate.
So sorry... this is such a sticky situation for you. Good Luck!

So sorry this is a really bad situation. I agree with the girls above, its your FHs place to say something to her. You don't need to be put in a place where she could get mad at you.

Re: FMIL attire help
Well for the wedding I'm going to tell her I pick out her outfit. I told her that I would come shopping with her to help her pick out something for the eparty-she was like well its just a backyard party. It is a party in my parents backyard but its not like a bbq. I'm going to tell her that she needs to wear something more conservative. I def will look online at the stores I know she likes to shop at and send her links that's a great idea. I def will have my fiance tell her that she needs to dress appropriately. Its our day NOT hers. Believe me she's had her day---many times. She's on marriage # 5 or 6. AHHHH!!!

This is definitely a sticky situation. I agree with the other grils, you should have FH talk to her about it. Sometimes if it comes from him its not as bad as if it comes from you. Good Luck!

I'm in the same boat. I have conditioned myself not to care anymore. If she wants to look like an azz, let her. If she asks me, my answer is always the same: ' wear whatever you are comfortable with'.

Ugh that's horrible!!! I definitely think you should let your FH handle it, it's his mom and if you say something it might start unnecessary drama....idk jmo

Re: FMIL attire help
Easy answer...pawn this one off on FH! Have him tell FMIL he wants to make sure she looks mom-ish and have him ask to see the dress while you're over so you can both weigh in!

Re: FMIL attire help
She will def be embarrassing more than just herself-it will be me, her son, my fam and friends. She doesn't even have a top to show off with a low cut dress!! She needs to know that its not just an outside party but our engagement party!! When she told me what she wanted to wear I think steam came out of my ears. haha
