Am I the only one that has a FMIL that lies....she will say oh I will buy the favors for the engagement party.. then you buy them and give her the bill and she says 'I never said that'........ Ok I might be losing my mind BUT can I for the wedding have her write 'I will buy the favors' and have her sign it so when she says 'I never said that' I have proof... I know this probably sounds nuts but I am sick of it!!!

Re: FMIL drama
I'd at least get it in email form
My MIL does this, and I just started saying no thanks.
For the wedding, we asked that she just donate to the cause vs. Bing in charge of things, because then she always flakes and backs out

Re: FMIL drama
why dont you just make her go w you when you get stuff and make her pay for it there, instead of laying it out and then have her pretend she never said it

Re: FMIL drama
Sometimes it is difficult...like she wants certain foods at the wedding that are more money... Do I make her get her own contract?

Wow definitely have everything written down. I would even go as far as to record her.

Re: FMIL drama
:) So happy not everyone thinks I am nuts!!!! Honestly...she does this ALL the time. Her daughter in law used to complain and I never understood until now!

Re: FMIL drama
Well then just say no! It sucks at first, but it becomes kind of liberating, like she did it to herself
Wow. Is there a chance she has some sort of minor memory loss?
If not, why would she even agree to pay for something in the first place?

Re: FMIL drama
I personally just wouldn't count on her for anything. Someone like that will just continue to cause you more headaches. She'd prob refuse to sign anything. Plus to have to take it to that point anyways just isn't worth it. Only thing is like an above bride said.. make her go with you and pay for things herself.. that is if you can get her to the location and she doesn't make excuses that she forgot her cc or checkbook lol

Great advice girls!!! I think she does it to manipulate the situation!! I have learned my lesson.. either pay before or you don't get it

Yeah I would just do everything myself--that way you owe her nothing & she can keep her craziness to herself

Re: FMIL drama
If she wants certain foods that cost more money, let her know that you are more than willing to oblige if she is willing to pay, and tell her you would be happy to go with her to the hall so she can discuss the upgrade with them!

Sure she can discuss it, but when final payment is due, I am sure she will conveniently forget
I say drop her and her wants. You will be happier in the long run not stressing about her

Re: FMIL drama
Well if she discusses with them, I am thinking she would have to sign for her decision as well. But yes, I would probably just say screw it at this point and not depend on her at all or worry about her wants.
