FMIL Dress??

Ok....so what color dress does my FMIL wear? The other night she was going over with me things I have done and I mentioned my girls are wearing brown and she says 'oh good so i will look for something in that color as well'....of course i didn't say something to her but i went to FH later that night and i was like 'she can't do that' So he says 'just tell her' but i feel bad.

What color should she not be wearing? Doesn't she get something different then my girls? It's one thing if it was my mom....but its not. Help.

My girls are wearing brown as well. She asked me what color and I told her taupes, tans, etc... Just not choc brown.

Call her and say that you were thinking that if she wore brown she wouldn't stand out from the BM's and you want everyone to know she is special, so you think she should wear________(insert color choice)

That way you come off as wanting her to be unique and special, and not perceived as anything else.

Re: FMIL Dress??

Since my FMIL is OOT, I sent her an email asking her not to get a brown dress since that is the color of my bridesmaids and to not get a an ivory or white dress since my dress is ivory. I also attached a photo of my mom's dress and asked her not to get that style or color. She was cool with all of that and said she was looking for something in light blue.

I don't think there is a particular color that your FMIL has to wear - she should just be comfortable in whatever she chooses. From what you have said, your FMIL sounds like she will be cool with your wishes.

I would tell her that you do not want her to blend into the bridal party but rather she stand out as the MOG...maybe suggest a coordinating color instead.

I would say she should wear a different color, but one that doesn't clash. If your girls are in brown, maybe a nice champagne or beige for her.

my girls are in brown and my mom and FMIL are looking for brown dresses. they are looking for much older styles so I'm not too worried.

Re: FMIL Dress??

Oddly enough at first i was dead set against my mom wearing black because my bms are wearing black with white accents and every gown she tried on looked similar to the bm gowns. Well she happened to try on one gown and i fell in love and ended up eating my words because my mom is now wearing black and so is fmil. No dresses look like the bm dresses though. I would think she can wear any coordinating color but pretty much every color can coordinate with brown. Pics are in my album

she can really wear anything but white or ivory... the rest is your preference.

It sounds like she thinks she is supposed to wear brown. You might want her to, you might want her not to, you might not care. Totally your call.

My BM dresses are the color of my avatar. My mom's dress is brown. FMIL said she won't look for anything black, white, brown or blue (she doesn't want to clash with the BMs). To be honest, I wouldn't really mind if she did wear brown but it's possible my mom might have. I also wouldn't really mind if she found a blue dress because she won't be in many (any?) pictures with the bridesmaids. In the end she found a beautiful pewter dress that will look great with FFIL's vest and the rest of the wedding party.

In short, if you have a preference let her know.

Re: FMIL Dress??

All I told FMIL was no white, and not the exact color of BMs....she waited for my mom to get her dress before she started on her own....I knew she wanted light blue or green anyway though so I knew it wouldn't be an issue!!

Also, IMHO, she doesn't really need to coordinate with the bridal party. She will probably only be in pics with them if she has a daughter in the bridal party....

She can wear brown as long as it's a different shade and/ or different material.
My girls are wearing red, my mom is wearing megenta with black lace overlay and FMIL is wearing aubergine, like purple. So everyone is in the red family.
