FMIL Favor Rant

FMIL Favor Rant

OK, so back over the summer i was talking to FMIL about favors, and mentioned how I'd love to have something homemade. She suggested cookie bars - she said she could make them the Thursday before the wedding. I said that sounds great.

Then a few weeks later, she said, 'What about fudge? It lasts a while so you can make it the weekend before and it will be fine.' I said that was awesome. She found some Martha Stewart recipes with coconut and peanuts and was like, this looks delicious. I agreed, but suggested we go with something a little more plain, in case people don't like/are allergic to coconut or peanuts. She said, 'Well, that's what makes it good', but said I should find a recipe.

So fast forward to this weekend. FH and I went over and brought some ingredients for a very simple fudge I found on allrecipes.com that had great ratings. She saw the ingredients and made a face, and said, 'that's not going to be very good.' I said, oh well, we'll test it out and see.

After the fudge was poured in the pan and set to cool, she comes over and says, 'Now, when are you going to have a chance to make all that fudge?'

WHAT?! I just stood there and couldn't even think of anything to say. She walked away and I was FUMING. Now I have 11 days to figure out favors when I have like, zero money budgeted for it. Later in the evening I was talking to FH about ideas (M&Ms, Jelly Bellies etc) and FMIL overheard and make her 'That's not a good idea' sound.

Um, excuse me - you have ZERO say in this now. ARGH I am so annoyed. Is a small baggie of M&Ms or Jelly Bellies in our colors a stupid idea???

I'm so sorry! That really sucks! Can FH talk to her about just doing it? Or do you not even want to be bothered anymore. We didn't purchase favors. Instead, we made bookmarks with a small thank you note and our engagement pic. My aunt laminated them and the tassels were pretty inexpensive. I love them! We purchased to go boxes so guests could take home treats from the VH. We're also giving our centerpieces and table number frames during a small game during the reception...you can also do that in addition to anything you chose. It'll make it seem bigger without spending the extra money. But M&Ms or candies are fine too. Do not stress yourself over the favors...a lot of people chuck them anyway.

wowwww thats insane???

would you consider doing a donation? maybe you can agree to donate like 10% of all the gifts you get to a charity

then you can just make signs that say that 'instead of favors....'

that is insane. im sorry. but at this point, i wouldnt stress and instead use the time/energy to think of who else you can help

for my shower favors we donated to disabled vets

OMG that's ridiculous! i'd be fuming too!

I would change the plan and just do something simple like a donation ... if you don't have the money, you can donate a little now and a little after the wedding (or all after) ... and it doesn't have to be that much either (we did about $2 per guest)

Let me know if you want her info!

Gotta give it up for the FMIL/MIL's
Sorry about your situation but I think the M&m's sound like a great idea and you can even personalize them with a message too. Hope everything works out for you.

I am getting caramel apples from BJs. The apples themselves come in packs of 8 for $4.99-$5.99. The bags from Michaels are 100 bags for $3.99 and the ribbon was $3.99 also from Michaels. If you want to personalize them order business cards for free from vista. Hole punch the card and string it through.

Just an inexpensive idea since you are my date twin.
