Basically, my fmil has been looking for a dress and finally brought me to the place to try it on. Not only is it BLACK but it is SO ordinary. I could see 5 people walk in with the same thing! But she loves it. SO I said it was nice, etc but wasn't bubbling over. I was hoping it would change her mind, but it didn't. So she called my fh today and told him that she hopes I am not disappointed. Now HE is giving me crap about how she can get whatever she wants and its not all about me!!! I want to kill them both right now!!!!!

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
My FMIL refuses to order a dress that is in the size the salon tells her b/c she's a smaller size, so I can relate.
Does the dress come in any other colors? Did you tell your FMIL that you don't want anyone wearing black? Blame it on the photographer- tell her its too hard to get the black and white in the same picture.
Does the dress come in other colors? Can you order her a shawl in another color? Maybe once she gets her hair done with nice jewelery, it will come together.

It comes in EVERY color of the rainbow!!! But she likes black. My family is definitely going to be commenting... I am trying to convince myself not to care, since I have so much other stuff to deal with....

well.... if she wants to look ordinary it is no reflection of you....people will comment on her bland outfit, not on your wedding which will be wonderful

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
I fully understand and agree with you that she should be wearing something special and festive looking that shows her happiness for her son's wedding, and not in black. But it's obviously she is happy with her choice and aware that you didn't like it. Any more said would cause trouble. I suggest you let it go. As already stated, it's no reflection on you. She may show it to other people as well and they may talk her out of it.

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
I think black gets a bad rap as a color of mourning....personally I would rather my mom wear that since its more elegant and slimming.
Just one piece of advice I've learned over the years that applies here:
Everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to spend their time commenting on anyone else.
I vote for letting your FMIL be comfy cause one day you will be in her position and probably wont want to be told or made to feel bad for what you want to wear. JMHO- dont kill me!

I think black is very elegant. My mom wore black to mt sisters wedding. It will be fine. If that's what she wants to wear, there is really nothing you can do about it without seeming like a major bridezilla. JMO though. :)

hey, it could be worst. be thankful she does not want to wear white!! that would really suck. if people talk about her or well. I would not worry about it too much b/c you know what you'll be wearing.

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
I would be honest with her and tell her the dress is nice, but why dont you get it in a color. The photographer said that the black is difficult to do with the pictures (who knows?) and that you want more color in the pictures. If she is in black and the tuxes are black, it might be too much. My mother ordered her dress today without me seeing it. I am scared.

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
I let my mother and fmil pick their own dresses, they both chose black.
IMO I think they should be able to wear whatever they want and are comfortable in.

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
If she likes the dress, she should wear it. It just seems that, in the end, no one will remember what she wore anyway. She may not be very comfortable in choosing a dress and black is a safe color.

Ditto except they chose different colors but I wouldn't have minded if they wore black.

Re: FMIL & FH drama!
If that's what she wants to wear, I wouldn't let it upset you. Maybe she's not into shimmery type dresses. She can always dress it up with a scarf or jacket or nice sparkly jewelry.
If you really feel like she's underdressed, then when you either go to see your dress or someone in your wedding party is going to a dress salon, ask her to go but just make it casual, not like you want her to buy a new dress. Maybe she'll find something else that will be more 'MOG-like'.
But if not, let it go, many other things to stress over, that should not be one of them!
