We started sending out save the dates and we're doing FI's family. FI started sending them out but has been so busy at work I offered to do them, too. Well, lo and behold there are 8 more names on the list than originally agreed to -added in by his mother! May I point out that his mother is not putting a dime towards this wedding, not because she is poor or unstable financially, but because she doesn't want to 'waste money on something as impermanent as a wedding'. But she has no problem ponying up more names. My parents are footing the bill for this reception, graciously I might add, consider my FMIL's attitude about this whole wedding. Poor FI feels completely embarassed and apologetic, and I know it's not his fault. I know this is long, I'm venting, I'll get over it, FI is going to go over the guest list with FMIL to see who to cut - ARRGGHH -why is this woman allowed to breathe? *grumbling*

Just breathe. Weddings seem to trigger the idiot gene in alot of people. Don't worry it will be fine.

I am so sorry sweety!!! I think your FI should nicely, but firmly tell her that there is a certain allotment for guests on his side and that the BOTH OF YOU noticed that there were more names on the list than agreed upon.....
Also---It's great to see another TimberPoint bride around...I'll be taking pics of the renovations when they begin!!

Thanks - I'm living one breath at a time - I've had zero guest list problems until now - but perhaps that's because we haven't sent out invitations yet..thanks again for your support!

btrflygrl, I know I cannot wait to see Timber Point with the new renovations - I'm such a geek I'm so excited about it. As for FMIL, FI has left her a message to discuss 'revising' the guest list - thank God he's on my side for this. And I'm breathing easier because I don't have to be the one to break it to her. Another self-created melodrama resolved LOL!

If she feels it is such a 'waste money on something as impermanent as a wedding', than she shouldn't be allowed to invite anyone. How could she say something like that and then want to add people. I would tell her if she wants them there than she needs to pay for them. I know thats not possible, because it will cause problems, but Thats what I would like to say if I was in your situation.

My thoughts exactly - I was pretty offended by that little zinger - but I can't 'punish' FI for FMIL's rude behavior - of course I suggested to FI that perhaps his mother could cover the extra guests, but he wouldn't even broach that topic with her (I've never seen a grown man so cowed by confrontation with his own mother), but he did leave a message for her to go over the guest list and 'revise' the number of guests. I swear, he is a wonderful guy, you would never know his mother was such a @&$&!!#&Y$ - I hope one day he 'grows up' enough to see his mother for what she really is and not try so hard to get her approval - he'll never get it from her. God knows I gave up 4 years ago. Just gotta keep breathing....
