FMIL just said that some ppl invited shouldn't have been!

SO a while back I posted that FMIL added 26 people to the list and I was afraid we'd be over the max in the room. They were cousins of hers that we never met and we only were inviting OUR first cousins, not hers, etc. I asked FH a million times and he said NO ONE can be taken off, they all speak to each other and will know they are not invited, etc. They all live in other states! Not even people that anyone sees regularly. ANYHOW, fast forward to today - I emailed her last night to tell her that the hotel block rate expires in a week and if there is anyone that she thinks is making a reservation, she should call them ... and I also mentioned who didn't rsvp yet (date is sept 25). Well, she said that none of the people i mentioned should have been invited!!!!!!! WHAT??? That is why I sent her the list a week before I sent the invites - she said she couldn't open it, and I thought she was skirting the issue of cutting people, so I dropped it. GRRRR. I don't mind too much because we are fine with numbers - at 112 now and I expect we'll be at 140 or so in the end - but I would have invited a few more people had these 15 people or so NOT been on the list. Like a friend from CA that I would love to have there - another one, my college roommate and her husband - my boss and his wife .........

Oh Jenn...I'm sorry! I remember when you posted this. FMIL seems like a pain. Hope it all works out!

no, actually, she's really sweet and I like her a lot. I guess it was just a misunderstanding. FH went over the list with her when we sent save the dates, and there were people he said we shouldn't send a save the date to - but i never was told they shouldn't get invites. i guess that is what she meant ... but fh took it wrong ... whatever. it's fine. even if they come it will be fine. but most likely, if they weren't supposed to be invited, they are not close to anyone - and won't come, right? i am just a little annoyed because i would have invited other people if i had known they shouldn't have been invited.

sorry to hear this...i have sorta the reverse problem in that my FMIL had reviewed the guest list TWICE and kept saying that there's no one else to invite, but a few days after each time, she would say that we need to invite X, Y, and Z.

If you still want these people to come it is not too late to invite them too.

I would feel really bad. I don't think they would come anyhow -- friend in CA would have to buy a ticket on short notice -- college roommate lives in DE, has no $$$$ and would complain about everthing from tolls and gas to buying a dress ... and boss and wife might come, but i don't want it to seem like i am looking for a gift and i really have no where to seat them. but i would have invited all if they were given more notice, then maybe the friends in CA and DE would have had time to get travel arrangements in order, save $ if she wanted to come, etc - you know?

The only one i might ask is the friend from de - i was in her wedding and it would be nice to see her there, but i suspect she will say no.
