FMIL NIGHTMARE.

FMIL NIGHTMARE.

I don't have the closest relationship with my FMIL, but we do get along very well when we get together with his family. It's not like I would pick up the phone to give her a call, but we're cool.

Now, FH and I have been going out for FOREVER, and we're getting married after a long time. I've never really wanted kids, but lately have really heard the clock, and may be changing my mind. FH and I have talked about it, but really, not with anyone else.

Nightmare Part 1.

We went camping a few weeks ago. FH's parents asked if they could come. What do you say?? So of course FH says yes. Okay, I figured, whatever. They got their own site and, like I said, are pretty cool, so it was okay. But seriously, I'd rather not take a weekend and camp with the in-laws, you know?

The real Nightmare.

We are sitting around a table. It's me, FH, two of our guy friends, and future in-laws. I start to get up to get something, and FMIL says:

So are you guys going to have kids? I mean Lisa (FH's sister and only sibling) had three boys and I REALLY want a granddaughter. You're my only chance now, you know?

I could NOT even respond, and I'm usually at no loss for words. I just stammered.

Then she says, Well, you haven't TOTALLY ruled it out, have you? I think I said no, but literally, this entire time, I froze in the half-standing, half-sitting position.

Whoa. Our one friend could not stop laughing, after the stunned silence. Everyone was staring at me. What a wonderful moment. Just thought you ladies would get a laugh.

She sounds like a lot of mother in laws and mothers, they want grandkids, and lots of them. Its not her decision at all so I'd just ignore her.

Ugh, my FMIL is the same way!

She is actually the reason why I have left out any thoughts of ever having kids EVER!

She annoys the crap out of me when she talks abut me having kids. I can't wait to tell her one day, 'I am never having kids b/c of you!'

Let us have children when we are ready to have children. Is Lisa your SIL?

Can't she be happy with the 3 she has already? lol

That's what's so wierd. She knows I was never into kids, and now she starts saying Well, I want a granddaughter, and Lisa won't give me one, so it's up to you.

Lisa (SIL) has three of the most beautiful boys you could ever imagine. Are you serious?

Maybe this isn't that nightmarish, but to me, it was. I felt like such a vessel. And for her to bring it up in front of everyone, it was really uncomfortable.

oh jeez.. I've had FMIL mention grandkids too, so you're not alone. I had told her that i wanted to wait AT LEAST 2 years after we're married. We're both young still so there's no rush, and i also kinda want to have a life before I become a mother. lol. She totally understood that, but then suddenly alone in the car - FH & her start joking about him somehow 'knocking me up' earlier than planned. And there I am alone in the backseat, like 'Oh Lord... this is awkward & strange.' But i wasn't mad or anything. I understand her wanting grandchildren... and it was all in a joking matter. But still - talk about an awkward moment. lol.

Yeah, it is awkward, b/c on one hand you feel like 'well this is what happens when you get married' it's sort of like peer pressure. AT least that is how I felt lol

Now, I am just like 'I am way too selfish to have kids right now, I want to do my own thing, and travel, and I don't like kids anyway! '

I think that you shouldn't let it bother you taht much, if she really starts to say something to you EVERY DAY, then I would be like 'look, we will have children if and when we are ready, until then there really isn't any need to talk about it.'
That's what I would say.

Then slap her in the face and push her into the wall :-X

Sorry, I have MIL issues

Sounds like my FMIL. We haven't told her yet we aren't having childnre. But she kind of figured it out I think since I've said numerous times I don't like children. Probably why she doesn't want me marry her son... other than the fact I am white.

She sounds like ALL of my Aunts. I would never ask someone if they were going to have kids because you never know if they have fertility problems or not.

My only advice is that you are not alone, and this type of nosey behaviour is VERY common of MILs.

Ugh, you're definitely not alone.

Hang in there, be polite and remember that it's soley your and FH's decision- if and when. I get that all the time....FMIL, My own mother, aunts ect. At our engagement party FMIL proclaimed her desire for us to give her 4 or 5 grandchildren.

My father countered with- 'Stop at 2 honey, remember you're a career girl and not a breeder'. Good ol' Dad!

LOL - Been there done that - for the longest time I never wanted kids - & everybody knew - SO if the topic came up (as far as grandchildren) I'd respond by telling them to go buy a puppy. LOL (straightfaced too) LOL I can be such a B***tch - but OMG! I hate being put in that position.....long story short, I too changed my mind,.....you have to be truely ready....
