MY MOTHER! Ok... i dont' know if it is the EXACT color... but my mom ordered like a gold/cream/yellowy kind of color... and the way his mom described hers... it might be SLIGHTLY darker than my mom's... but it is pretty much the same color! I'm so annoyed. I didn't know what to say to her... I was just like 'oh'. And she started off saying 'don't get mad'. And what bothers me even more, is that she went to the same store that my mom got hers and this store sold her such a similar color. I'm gonna go there soon and ask for her color swatch to compare.. and if its the same i'm going to give the store a piece of my mind.
I know the style dress is much different... and when you put this in perspective to other issues, its not a big deal.. but it still pisses me off. It is such a wedding etiquette NO NO!

I actually want my mother and his mother to wear the same color dress. Didn't know it was a NO NO In any event, their different style dresses.

choose your battles....you have so much to plan/worry about....its not about your FMIL....Its about YOU. Forget about her ugly dress. Besides,,,,,if they're the same color it might look nice in the photos.

Well i don't know if it's a 'no no' but the mother of the bride normally picks her dress/color first. THEN the mother of the groom chooses a dress... and the reason for that is so she doesn't pick the same color as the mother of the bride. Whatever... i know it isn't a huge deal.. but my mom seemed a little ticked too especially since his mom kept saying to pick a dress and color so she wouldn't choose the same one!

I totally get it. Your mom should stand out and so should his therefore I think they should get different color dresses and not match each other. I personally hate it when someone matches me for special occasions. I used to have a friend that would always find out what color dress I got for parties, wedding, etc....and get the same one! I hate that.
Once you see your FMIL dress color and if it's similar to your mom's - talk to her about it and ask her to switch...not sure if she'll be willing since it's already been ordered. Hmmmmmm, this is a toughie. In my opinion, they really shouldn't be matching like your bridesmaids. Sowwy.

I'm planning on taking both my mom and FMIL dress shopping together in March/April as neither of our mom's drive. My mom already knows she wants something in a champagne color - but reality is she may try stuff on in that color and hate it... so I'd rather take them together to Walt Whitman mall and they can check out Macys and Bloomingdales... the 2 are very different sizes, my mom is tiny and petite, his mom is plus size. If the color looked good on both of them, I just want them to look good. I'd rather the color be similar or the same then for someone to wear a color that isn't for them. The day isn't really about the mom's - as long as no one else is wearing a white bridal gown, the rest will take care of itself. Don't sweat it - she bought it already. If she did it maliciously she will be content/satisfied knowing she upset you, if she did it innocently then she's just not the sharpest tool in the shed and chalk it up to she didn't know any better.
I'm learning in my old age to let a lot of sh*t roll off my back...

That would make me very upset too! You want your mom to look different! Even if the styles are different the colors being similar is a pain in the a$$... I hope for your sake the colors are very different!!

That is annoying! My FMIL hasn't even looked for dresses yet.........and my wedding is in March...but it is a small thing even though frustrating! Your mom will look better

ok at first i was like oh thats not a big deal. but the fact she asked your mom to go and pick a color so she wouldn't chose the same one is just not right. heres some for you and your mom.

i had a somewhat simiar situation .. FMIL is wearting a darker shade them my BM's and she was asking me if that was ok becuas she didnt want to clash but my girls are wearing a very light lilac and she got a very dark amnethyst color .. plus i think it will compliment the color scheme... as for ur situation i personally wouldnt want them the exact same color but if its a shade or so off then thats not too bad and u can alwys have them do something special with thier hair and or flowers to make them each stand out more

awww i am sorry you are upset! I am hoping my mom and fmil wear silimilar colors.. i know it is not going to happen ~ try not to be so upset it will be ok! especially if the dresses are so different...

Picture wise, I think the same color is a good thing... I'd only be concerned if it was the same dress.....
Then again, I'm a bit odd since I don't care what the bridal party wears (within reason). There are no bridesmaids dresses or tuxes.... We are simply asking the bestman to wear a dark colored suit, the bridesmaids wear black skirts and ivory tops, and the moms just avoid red/pink, since it would clash with our wedding colors (blue/grey/green/ivory)....

i understand why youre upset. Thats strange that she would deliberately pick the same color as your mom why would she want to look the same as her i dont get it? I hope it works out and maybe her color dress isnt identicial or really that similar to your moms. Try not to get too upset before you see the actual color of your FMIL dress.
