FMIL picked out same color dress as my mom

FMIL picked out same color dress as my mom

Is this a big deal? She waited almost until the last minute (she just got it Monday) and when I saw it...it is a light gold and my mom's dress is a champagne...they are very similar! I know this wasn't intentional as my FMIL is a saint and she will look gorgeous...but I don't know if my mom will kind of freak.

Is this bad? What do I do??

I dont really think its a bad thing, at least they will match e/o and wont clash. I dont know how I would feel about it. Are they so similar that it could be mistaken as the same dress? IF so then maybe I would ask her if she minded changing but I dont really think it matters

Hmmm...it depends on your mom. I know my mom would NOT be happy at all. She'd be soooo upset. I'm sure it wasnt intentional, but to be honest, she should have asked you what color your mom was wearing before she bought anything to avoid something like this happenning.

i'd say give your mom a heads up about it and see how she reacts...it really shouldn't be an issue...it could even be like you planned it~ all the bridesmaids are in the same color and you wanted both moms in the same color!

I don't think it's a bad thing - both my mom and FMIL have similar colors and I think it will look very nice together

the funny thing is she waited so long to get a dress because she wanted to see what color my mom picked out! So my mom picked out champange...four months later she goes to pick out a dress...she must have just forgotten....oh well LOL just another thing!

Is that the only color she could get the dress in? If it was me, I would not be happy about it at all. I mean I'm sure your FMIL did not do it with any bad intentions, but I guess it depends on the kind of person you and/or your mom are. I just know if it was me, I would be upset. I want my mom to be in a league of her own that day. I'm sure it will work itself out though.

I was a bit unhappy and I know my mom will be too. They aren't exaclty the same color but very close but the styles are totally different! My sister just said to make sure I preface it with that when I tell my mom....oh geez! Just another thing I have to deal with!

i actually think it's a good thing! my sister and FSIL are wearing black (they're the only ones in the bridal party) and my mom is wearing lilac. my mom was worried that she might be the only one in a 'color' if FMIL wears black too. my mom is actually HOPING that FMIL get a color too----purple would be great!

yeahh maybe your mom can accesorize hers up a bit, a purse, jewelery etc etc so she STAND OUT more than FMIL haha

I agree. My mother would freak out! But then again, she freaks out about a lot of things. I guess it just depends on your mom. Just make sure you tell your mom before the wedding to avoid any drama that day.

My mom would be pissed, so if I were you, I would give mom a heads up, but I personally wouldn't tell her it's the same exact color. I would say, 'Oh, FMIL finally got her dress. It's pretty, it's a gold color, it looks nice.' I would not tell my mom its the same or else she all hell would break loose!

Since we are talking abotu FMIL dresses - mine asked me recently what color dress should she get... My mom doesn't have her dress yet. Is there an etiquette to what color dress the MOB and the MOG should wear?

this happened to both my aunt AND my mother ( we have bad luck i guess) and both of them went out a few weeks before the wedding and bought a completely new dress, no drama or anything

they both refused to wear the same color as the other mother- and would have freaked if they didnt know beforehand so give your mom a heads up and then decide where to go from there.

Same happenned to my FMIL at her other son's wedding. She went out and bought ANOTHER dress. If bridesmaids dress up in the same color, why not the moms? Kinda silly. I told her she should wear the dress she had intended on wearing to my wedding.
