I am having two showers (NY &VA). My FMIL lives in Southern VA (about 4 hours from us).... she won't fly and isn't coming to my NY shower....she's coming to my VA shower and I asked her who from her family and friends she wants to invite and she said no one. Now most of their family is in the midwest sooo I guess that is why. I just sent her another email asking about her sister and neice who live in MD since that isn't that far?! I am just sad that I really won't have FI's family at either event. Is the fact that she doesn't want to invite anyone sound weird to you?

No, I don't think so at all. Honestly, my FMIL would probably say the same thing. She's only inviting like 30 people to this wedding (208 are invited) and I think she's just really being nice saying that she's not paying for it so she doesn't want to overstep her bounds. I don't agree, I think this should be as much about my FH as it is about me but some mothers can be like that. Maybe talk to your FH and ask him if he can think of anyone he'd like to invite to the shower.
