FMIL VENT

Ugh I cannot stand my FIL's sometimes!!! They know that we are paying for this wedding ourselves and they SHOULD have an idea that it isn't cheap! Plus we have all my student loans (over $200,000) from undergrad and grad school. They haven't offered to contribute one bit to the wedding, except for the RD!!! They have already told us how much $$ they will be giving as our wedding gift, and it is pretty generous, and they said if we need it before the wedding we can have it to pay for things- also nice. So the other day FH and I ran numbers and we decided we are going to need it from them to finish paying our RH, so he asked them last weekend, and his mom was all b*tchy about it- wanting to know what we were going to pay for with it, AND the best part is she goes 'Well we will give it to you RIGHT when you need it. I wouldn't want you to earn any interest on it and pocket it' UMMM ***?!?!? We would earn a total of like $.15 in interest on it- cuz that will DRASTICALLY change our lives....It drives me nuts because my parents are helping us out SOOOO much and have nothing, and his parents are loaded and haven't offered an extra dime!!!!

The reason it's so expensive is b/c FH's mom threw a temper tantrum when we were going to book a Sunday night (of Columbus Day Weekend)- because 'no one actually has off Columbus Day and their family wouldnt come all the way out to LI for a wedding' (they live in NJ). Ummm ok great, but they should be paying the $8000 difference in price between Saturday and Sunday night then!!!! I'm sorry, if your family won't come to a Sunday night wedding on a holiday weekend because it's too far and inconvenient for them, then we don't want them there anyway!!!!!

WoW! I would be upset too! What difference does it make when they give you the money? What does she think you guys are gonna spend it on something else? You obviously need it to pay for the wedding! Sorry your stressed. Im here if u need anything!

sorry it blows. We're in the same boat. The only advice I have is that she is crazy and you have to get over it. lol

I'm in the same boat as you. Like exactly the same, but i've been lucky enough that his parents have been really generous with help, but we've been mostly on our own. Again, *** is with the lack of support fromt he FIL's? And why would they care if you were gonna earn interest on it anyway???

the interest thing is the part that kills me! Seriously, they offered to give it early to help if you needed it, and it's her SON that's asking for it!

DO WE HAVE THE SAME FMIL? She sounds exactly like mine. My parents gave us a lot of $ and have no demands. FILS have not given a penny and have made every step of planning a pain in the a@@. It's getting to the point where I may loose it in front of them. Clearly being polite isn't working.

MY FMIL complained about the number of people she could invite to my e-party.. ummm i missed the part where she did ANYTHING for it including giving money!!

AHHH u totally are allowed this vent girl!

Holy Crap. That's ridiculous. She worried about you pocketing the money and the interest.. Nice Ma. Way to help out your kid. So sorry you are dealing with that.
