FMIL vent and advice
I keep reading all these terrible stories about FMIL and how miserable they are making the Bride. Where are the FH's in all this. I'm having issues with my FMIL too. (Background: She wanted her husband's daughter (an adult) to go to the wedding. I told my FH to explain that we were at a limit space wise and that we were also on a budget. We are paying for this wedding. the only monetary help I have recieved has been from my mom and brother. Anyway, I told him to tell them he would get back to them when we received all our RSVP's back and saw how many no's we recieved. Don't you know she took it upon herself to add the daughter anyway.) But I REFUSE to deal with her on a one on one basis. She is my FH's mother, FH needs to handle it and he did. I can chew out my family, because they are MY FAMILY and at the end of the day they know I still love them even if I have to tell them off every now and then.
I refuse to participate in a power struggle with anyone, especially FMIL, because that's basically what it is--a power play. FMIL wants to have control over her son. Let's face it ladies women are catty--especially FMIL. Because I'm a reasonable person my FH knows that if I have a complaint about his mother, FH knows that it is a valid one. Our FHs know the type of person their mothers are and if FH is not willing to go to bat for you, well, then I suggest you sit and watch an episode or two of Everybody Loves Raymond and prepare yourself for a lifetime of Marie.
other issues with his family; one aunt wants to bring her friend for what reason i don't know, his uncle's wife begged me to let her mom attend, I said yes, come to find out the mother can't make it, so now she wants her husband's son outside of the marriage to attend so he can meet the family. It's a family reunion on my dime. am I wrong to be annoyed with that situation. i don't feel my wedding is the appropriate venue to introduce his uncle's son to the family (they have not met him). I just feel that they want me to bend over backwards, but not once, not once has anyone offered any help, monetary or otherwise. am I wrong to be annoyed?
