FML

FML

I can't fuking win with FH's family. My MOH's are planning my bridal shower and they decided no children, just the women. FSIL asked if she could bring her kids and I tell her my MOH's would prefer only adults so the focus is on the bride. Indian people have to invite everyone and their mother to everything, bridal showers, baby showers, etc. FSIL calls her mom to complain about this and now everyone is pissed off at me. FMIL is like I'm not going if my grandchildren aren't allowed and FSIL was like oh it was like a slap in the face when I told her no kids. I did end up telling she can bring her children but they are making such a fuking big deal about it. And to make matters worse they drag FH into.

It's my bridal shower, they are not paying for anything. Typically a bridal shower is just women anyway so W T F. I told FH, I don't want to talk to his mom or sister and that they are acting stupid. So now, I have the added stress of them b!tching about my bridal shower. I told FH tell them don't come and return whatever gifts they have for me, I don't want it. I can't catch a break with these people. Everything has to be the Indian way, I'm not Indian and I'm not going to play by their stupid rules.

So FMIL and FSIL thanks for a great start to my week and an even better end to my Monday night. FML.

You know those two lines rang so true with me!
They also made me giggle a little, because it's just something that I will never really get used to. Everyone friggin' goes EVERYWHERE together...god forbid you just want to go out with two cousins to the movies or something...you should call every cousin in a twenty-mile radius so their feelings aren't hurt!
Sigh.
Is this a case of them not really understanding what a typical shower is? FH was trying to explain it to his mom this weekend...we've got a ways to go with that

FMIL thinks I'm insulting her grandkids by not including them in the bridal shower. I just can't win with her, she will say anything to me but with her son-n-law she will just talk $hit behind his back and never say a word. FSIL says she feels embarrassed because the situation has turned it this, well maybe you should if you went running to your mom complaining about it. I told FH don't expect to see me around their house any time soon. I hope your FMIL is better with this than mine.

they don't have to attend. That simple. Of course...there will be some resentment to deal with leading up to the wedding.

I feel your pain...on a smaller scale though. I'm sure my FMIL will throw a fit when she realizes that my FSD is only staying for a small part of the shower...you are right, the focus should be on the bride, and there are inappropriate things going on at a shower...what if someone buys you lingerie???? They should think about these things...

Re: FML

i'm sooo sorry you're dealing with all this stress...you have all right to have a bridal shower the way you want it...the shower is all about you!! I think most of it comes from your ILs not really understanding what a bridal shower is. They probably look at it as just another get together that everyone should be invited to. Maybe your FH can explain to them what a bridal shower is like?

my family is guyanese and all the older ladies seem to think a bridal shower is the same thing as a bachelorette party!! it gets very frustrating!! They want to see strippers and invite other people to come with them...LOL

is your FH the only son? Cause mothers and their sons !!! i have alot of stories about my FMIL drama and i think alot of it has to do with letting go of their baby boys
