so I have been asking fh to ask my mil what she is going to be wearing to the wedding for a few days now. He tells me today that she said she is going to wear a peach pant suit ( Like the type you wear to go to an interview) I told him that a pant suit is not formal enough for the mother of the groom to wear, and he acted like I am being unreasonable. whatg do you ladies think?

I agree w/ you completely!!!! Thats not what you wear to a wedding, especially if your son is getting married. Tell FH to talk to her.

I think you are not in the wrong. Maybe its a breakdown in communication? Does she understand how formal your wedding is going to be? My FMIL informed me she is wearing a short black dress- which I am not happy about either.
You've got some time...pray she will change her mind??

Totally agree! Talking about peach color, it reminded me of the movie 'monster in law' the MIL was supposed to wear a peach dress lol!

I am so upset over this. I just feel like she is going to bring a very informal flare to my very formal wedding. My sister said than I should offer to pay for her dress. NO WAY!!! She is not contributing anything to this wedding. Why should I pay for her dress also?

How close are you with her? Would it be feasible/appropriate to ask her to go shopping with you (not on your dime, though) so you can pick out an outfit together?
Let her think she has the upper hand but make it seem like a fun bonding experience while you supervise.

I suggested this to my fh. Unfortunately, my fh lives in Barbados and won't be here until a week before the wedding. Fh thinks she may want to bring her outfit with her.

Yeah I don't think a pant suit is appropriate, would you go out with her and pick something else out?
My FMIL went shopping for a dress and asked what color I would like her to wear. I said anything but black (because it's not summery), white (obv but just to be sure!) and blue (because that's my color). She picked out and paid for a navy blue dress. The sales consultant told her it would co-ordinate beautifully. Whatever ugh!

I completely agree with you. She should be wearing a dress to her sons wedding. Hopefully she'll come around and get a dress

Oh no!!!! That is not wedding attire. Tell her you would prefer her to wear a gown. Good luck with that one

Re: fml, mil vent
maybe it's a super fancy one?????? i'm sorry, that's ridiculous...maybe ask to see it first? explain that everyone will be in formal attire and you just want her to be aware of that so she doesn't feel uncomfortable or underdressed.
remember, in the end it's all about you - it's your day and no one will remember with your FMIL wore....she'll be the one with egg on her face at the end of the day

That is definitely not wedding attire! Say something like I think you would look absolutely amazing in say a blue dress...play nice and she may just eat up the compliments and do as you say haha

I love my mil she is an awesome woman, I just wish she lived closer ( she lives in Barbados) so I can have more influence over what she wears to the wedding.

Re: fml, mil vent
maybe the fh can talk to her...because maybe if she doesnt live here shes not sure on how formal it is and exactly what to wear..maybe you could even mention it to her.
