Quick question - any '09 brides out there who have already done the Foccus Class before Pre Cana?? I have mine tonight and just wanted to see what exactly it entails. The woman at the rectory told my FH it starts at 730pm and goes until around 930pm!!! I thought that sounded really long....thanks in advance

We didn't have a CLASS per se, we had to do an interview thing on the computer, but all of our pre cana sessions were 2 hours per night, it goes really quickly, and it's not that bad

When we did Foccus, we went to the house of a couple from our parish. They spoke to us together about the test,etc. Then, they had us go to separate rooms to take the test which was (I think) about 250 questions. You answer agree, disagree or unsure to questions about whether you and FH have discussed financial issues, family planning issues, whether you think you have conflict resolution problems, etc.
You can't fail the test, so don't stress about it too much.
You'll have to go back another time to discuss your results.

ugh yeah we have to do that focus thing as well! :( i dont understand why they ask for so much just to get married, but whatever =] lol.. FH was like what the hell, i have to take a test and go thru all these interviews with the parish and priest and all to get married!? what has this come to, lol.. he couldnt believe how much we have to do to actually get married, i honestly myself have not really heard about anyone else having to do a focus class except for a few of us! no one in my family ever had to, and my brother and sis in law who just got married last feb were never asked to do any focus class from her parish.. i guess we are just the lucky ones to be in these strict parish's lol! oh well!
i actually had the lady whos house we will be going to call me today to scheduel a day after the holidays to go in for our focus.. i guess it should be fine, they just ask about 200 questions and you either agree, disagree or not certain and than they compare both tests together! hopefully me and FH will agree on most questions, together - haha! =P

We don't have to do Foccus?? Just the pre cana - we're doing the 2 day one in NYC...getting married at St. Mary's in Manhasset.

FYI - you can fail it, a girl I work with failed it and they made them take an eight week marriage counseling course or else they couldn't get married in the church......but to be honest you have to be a dumb a$$ to fail, this girl was particulary dumb anyway

it really isn't bad at ALL... it was really fun. it is a 'couples inventory' its a bunch of questions about you're values and future plans. it is a really great way to see the things that you have talked about and still need to. it was really interesting.

we took the test online and then went and met with the deacon and we were litterally in and out in 5 minutes. He was like 'well theres nothing to talk about you did great, bye bye'

i wish i could do it online, it would be so much better! im actually nervous to go to this couples house and sit down and answer these questions face to face with them, haha! i know im silly and we will do just fine, its just still nervous when you dont know what to expect.. and about that girl who failed and had to do an 8 week couseling you are kidding right? wow! im sorry but thats just rediciolous and i would never accept that cause honestly who are they to tell me and my FH we need counseling just because of a questionaire? honestly, that survery will not tell them anything about us! i would just find another church to get married at, i would not do it! sometimes people get nervous with these things and dont even pay close attention to the questions cause their so nervous and just answer whatever... i think thats just wrong! but whatever.. im not worried, i honestly dont think we will 'fail' this thing, haha! =]

We didn't have a class for FOCCUS, we just went in and took the test. It took about 45 minutes, it was a multiple choice test of a little over 100 questions. We each took it seperately and have to meet with our priest sometime before our wedding to discuss the results.

Thanks everyone for the info! It wasn't bad at all (although FH kept calling it a 'shake down' b/c we had to pay $25). Some of the questions were pretty random though, and we had to fill out an extra set of questions since we already live together. The woman said someone will call us within a month or so to go over the answers. PS: Not sure how someone could fail the test - it was pretty straight forward! hahahahha... Thanks again!!!!

like what kind of questions did they ask you, just to have an idea of what they ask.. if you dont mind sharing! :) we are going for our FOCCUS after christmas time and i am a bit nervous about it, lol! dont ask me why, i just dont know what to expect.. but i heard its pretty simple and we shouldnt have a problem cause we are both basically on the same page with values and all! :)
