My bridemaids just told me something, that was just a little different. Last year, she went to a wedding and the girl had in her invitation package, the food selection. Like the guest, should pick chicken, fish or steak.
Do people still do that? Last time I remember something like that, I think I was a little girl in the 80s.

Re: Food and Invitation
This is something I haven't seen in awhile. It's usually a way to keep costs down so the hall doesn't have to make enough of each thing for everyone, they know exactly how many in advance..it's considered..how do I say this politely..umm...informal...

I had to do this for a couple of weddings that I went to upstate. They definitely still do it there. Its just so the hall makes just enough of each dish for each guest. The last one I went to, they wrote the dish you chose from the invitation on your placecard too

Yeah, it's definitely more popular outside of NYC/LI

Re: Food and Invitation
Haha, I'm from Rhode Island and when my family received their invitations they all called and asked how I would know what they want for dinner. Also, when I was going over all the cocktail hour food my mom told me I should have an announcement made that cocktail hour is not the dinner so make sure to save room. I just smiled on the other end of the phone. It's so different here compared to other places.

We got an invitation like that in October. I'm not a fan. Personally, I'm a picky eater so I'll be eating the chicken regardless, but my FSIL wasn't in the mood for the dish she chose when she sent the RSVP and wound up changing anyway.

I had to do this for a wedding I went to in the Poconos a year and a half ago. It was a little weird bc you don't know what your gonna be in the mood for on that day so how do you pick that out ahead of time lol

Re: Food and Invitation
Went to a wedding upstate NY and the CH was cheese, crackers and food and the bartender looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for a glass of champagne. He was like, 'Um that's for the toast only...'
I currently live in Maryland (from LI though) and allll the weddings I hear about here make you pick your entree with your RSVP. So strange to me...

Re: Food and Invitation
we are not including it in our invitations....but my FMIL asked me to send her a copy of the menu so she can think about what she is going to have and our wedding is not for 200 days!

That would be me. Yeah, it's definitely not something you see done nowadays. But, I think for venues out of NY what they do is charge X amount for certain dishes (like lobster and steak would cost the couple more than a chicken dish). So when the couples gives the final count and tells the venue how many of each dish they calculate their final payment accordingly. But I had no issue switching dishes. I originally ordered chicken but wanted the Filet Mignon when I got there and just pretended I couldn't remember what I RSVP'd.

Re: Food and Invitation
My cousin (to which I HATE) did this for her wedding. IMHO I personally HATE when I get this in an invite. How am I supposed to know what I'll be in the mood for in 2-3 months? I can see why it's a good thing because the couple can save money and the hall doesn't have to make food and let it go to waste but I just don't agree with it.

Re: Food and Invitation
I think the RH makes them do that. I don't think the bride gets a choice in the matter.
