food as favors?

food as favors?

Hey girls - I need some advice.

As our main favor, we are making a donation in honor of my aunt who passed away after battling breast cancer. I feel pretty strongly that we need to offer them something to take with them anyway.

Here are the options we're deciding between:

chocolate covered strawberries (pic in my 'ideas' album) - Has anyone done this??? I'm worried about keeping chocolate from melting in the summer and transporting them, etc. This is my leading option but I'm going to need help from ladies who have looked into food favors or who have given food favors!

jelly belly jellybeans in our colors in a little tin

m&m's personalized in our colors with our names.

what do you think? I need opinions!

TIA!!

personally, I think a donation is enough... if you want to give something to them... how about one of those pink breast cancer wristbands or a pin or something...

however, if you want to do a food favor and have the money for it, the chocolate covered strawberries sound YUMMY!!

I would say the strawberries, except they are SOOOO perishable that they can't be made the day before they are eaten.... and I doubt many places would be able to make them the same day as the wedding. Also, your guests would have to eat them the same day.... just too complicated to pull off....

I personally dislike m&ms (actually most hershey's/nestle candy)....

what about decorated wedding cookies, or godivas?

we are doing cake (my FMIL is an excellent baker) so she will bake cake that is symbolic with our culture as a favor. We will box them in nice personalized favor boxes with a coordinating ribbon.

I think the idea of a donation is great and it is more than enough, but if you feel that you should give them a little something to take away with them, I would go with the personalized m&m's.

I plan on doing the same thing. My sister is in culinary school and wants to become a baker. So I asked her as her present to us- if she wouldn't mind making our cake favors. However- how short in advance do you make like 75-100 small cakes?? Any idea? lol

I'm doing a favor donation too, and decided to do the car air freshener thing....

also putting place cards in really cute (non-wedding) little picture frames, so they walk out with something in their hands.

if you really like the edible thing, instead of those really perishable chocolate covered strawberries, (which can also be $$$), how about chocolate covered pretzels? They last longer....and are cheaper, and were given as my shower favors - everyone loved them!

I love chocolate covered starnerries, but the heat is going to destroy them.
Plus you have to get them right before the wedding. Another thign to worry about.
At least the M&Ms you can get now!

I am doing the same thing and have been looking into the m&m's too. I think they are your best bet

Chocolate covered strawberries are really perishable and can get pricey. Although it's a great idea, you might have a hard time keeping them fresh. I like the m&m's since you can personalize those too and it's a little something for the guests to snack on whenever.
