Re: food bills...
Oh my, if we only spent $75 per week I would be the happiest person. Our food bills are astronomical because (1) we work in the city and haven't gotten into the swing of 'bringing lunch' yet so we buy it, (2) we get home so late from work that it's too late to cook so we end up ordering out, and (3) we grocery shop every weekend for food and it only lasts one week. If I had to guess, I'd say together we spend around $300/week.

Hard to say exactly for us .. or to even guess .. I stock up when things are on sale .. and sometimes our freezer gets so full .. we don't need to really do any shopping for a few weeks.
Some really good buys recently .. buy 1 package of cornish hens - get 1 free .. ground turkey was also buy 1 get 1 .. london broils were insanely discounted (not manager's specials, though - I NEVER buy 'manager's special' meats).
On a weekly basis .. we will buy some deli meats .. turkey .. ham .. and a fresh loaf of break .. and we'll bring sandwiches to work for lunch.
I keep cans of chicken in the cabinet for chicken salad .. cans of veggies .. bags of frozen veggies .. lotsa pasta, rice, etc.
As for eating out .. including lunches, dinners, etc .. that varies greatly from week to week.
Stop and Shop has a cool web site .. they track your purchases over the past 12 weeks .. and they personalize a circular for you based on the store you choose .. each week you can see what's on sale. You need to have one of those 'cards' .. but that's great too .. because you get weekly no-clip discounts.

We do the same thing. I save a lot of money by dong this. Hey this week at Stop and shop Shady brook turkey breast all white meat is on sale, for 99 a lb. I will be cooking this later today and we will get a lot of meals out of it, as well as turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, turkey pot pie etc. I stock up on sale items and put it in the freezer. We spend anout 50.00 a week on groceries.

Re: food bills...
we spend somewhere between $400-$600 per month, and we never go out to dinner, just a few nights of take out. This includes everything fron groceries to shampoo. Basically it is our grocery store bill.

$100 a week on the weeks we only get pizza or chinese take out, more like 150-200 on weeks we go out to a sit down dinner.

Re: food bills...
We spend about $100 in the supermarket a week. That includes 5 nights of dinners and 4 days of lunches for me.
We eat out Friday and Sat. night for about $100 and DH buys lunch about $30-$40 a week.
Gosh, I didn't realize we spend that much on food

About $150 every 2 weeks at the supermarket which DH thought was ridiculous, but now I'm seeing we're kinda in the norm. He buys lunch about $20/wk and we usually eat out about 2-3 nights / wk.

We're about $100-$150 per week but I'm hoping once we have settled in living together and we don't have to buy as much 'stock items' (spices, condiments, garbage bags, ziplock, toiletrees etc...) and we have a stocked kitchen/bathroom we'll be able to drop to the $75 range each week ... My fingers are crossed because these bills are killing me!

Re: food bills...
I am feeling so guilty looking at everyone's numbers. The last two weeks of groceries I have spent $175-200 each week. We easily spend another $200 a week eating out.
How could we spend $400 a week on food and everyone else spends so much less???

I didn't add in: breakfast, lunch, dinner outside of the home at all (which comes out of out spending money) Plus I didn't include any entertaining nights (can you say filet minon for 10??? ) or our trips to the butcher when we stock up on good steaks/whole chickens/chops/etc.!
I was just talking stop & shop there.

what are you buying each week?? And that's for 2-people? It's a lot ... I've found cooking and freezing leftovers to be helpful in keeping costs down and stretching out meals (plus it's nice not to have to cook when you get home).

I don't know....I never buy any type of red meat. I usually buy fresh scallops or shrimp. I will buy one package of chicken breast. I buy A LOT of prduce. That is probably what it is. Lots of asparagus, brussel sprouts, etc.

Re: food bills...
seafood, especially in a supermarket is expensive - find a local (good) fish store and go in and ask them what is fresh and what is a good price ... Also a fresh fruit stand is cheaper than the grocery store.
My parents always went to the butcher, the fish market and the fruit store ... and only went to the supermarket for 'staples' and 'emergencies.'
After the bills I have been getting I am thinking they had the right idea ... Blueberries in the supermarket last week were 2/$5, in the fruit store they were $1.99 each ... that's 50 cents cheaper right there ... it does add up.

Re: food bills...
We eat in a lot, and when there is a good sale my freezer is bulging. Dh takes leftovers to work every day as well as I am home for lunch during the week. Each week whatever is left over in spending $$ for the week we put aside in a coffee can and take a trip to the bank with it every month, that means loose change etc. I also keep my pantry well stocked when there is a sale. ( Stuffing mixes, store brand items that aste just as good as name brand, rice mixes, I freeze butter and maragarine) I also go to a local vegetable/fruit market and save a lot by doing that too. We go out to dinner maybe 2x a month or to his Moms or my aunts house for dinners too, so I guess that helps a lot. We do bring desserts etc. I use coupons too. I even bring my breakfast to work lately. It usually is a yougurt or I make mini muffins and bag it and a water or juice, which I also buy in bulk at the beverage store or a wholesale club.I used to stop every morning at 7-11 for coffee etc, but cut that out too. It all adds up. Also buying in season saves a lot of $$$. With the taxes the way it is on Long Island this si the only way by trying to save money on other expenses.

Re: food bills...
some weeks I'll spend $120, but then I don't go again until 2 weeks later....
it really depends on what we need....I stock up when it's cheap, like when Walgreen's has VO5 shampoo for $.79 and then I have a $.50 off 2 bottles coupon....
I'll buy store brand stuff and when I buy a loaf of bread since it's just the 2 of us, I freeze half the loaf to make it last longer!
