Food Processor & Knives?

I am on a search for a set of knives and a food processor. Two things that I did not get for my shower.

I have no idea what to look for.

Any suggestions?

I have a Global 8' chef's knife. It's Japanese, which tend to be sharper than German (Wustoff). But I think with a knife you should pick it up and feel comfortable with it in your hand, so it's kind of subjective.

I didn't get knives either (already had the food processor.) My parents gave me Cutco for Christmas, and I love them. My dad sold them when my parents were first married, and they have used the set for years. Cutco will sharpen them for you for free (you just have to pay shipping and handling). My dad has only have them sharpened twice in 30 years. He just sent them in recently (the second time). Cutco replaced any knife that they couldn't sharpen with a brand new one at no charge. I like companies that stand behind their product.

Also- Someone I work with, they have had their Cutco knives since they got married over 50 years ago.

Re: Food Processor & Knives?

I have a 14 cup Cuisinart Food Processor- got it from my mom as a xmas gift last year as an upgrade (I also have a 4 cups which is GREAT for small jobs like grinding spices and nuts in small amounts). The large processor I know my mom got from Amazon.com at a great price.

As for knives I find that they tend to vary depending upon how they feel in your hand. I use my knives a LOT and realized that the only way to really tell which chef knive you should use depends on how it feels in your hand- so go to a store with lots of selection, not just one brand, and pick them up.. see if you like heavier, lighter, etc.

I don't think you'll need a set- I have 3 chef knives- 2 8'- one Sabatier which is my favorite and 1 henckel. I recently got a Wustoff japanese knife (6.5') which I really love for chopping veggies. Other than these three- a good serrated knive for bread and a small utility knife is all you should need.
