I'm sorry if these questions seem dumb, but I don't know anything about tastings!
Did your RH tell you when to schedule the appointment? Are you finalizing your menu at this appointment? Do you get to taste everything they offer or do you pick what you want to try?
Thanks!

I always ask if I haven't been to the RH at all, and they all said yes. Personally, I wouldn't sign a contract until I tested what I am paying for. Most halls let you try a TON of food and they do this usually when another party/event and/or wedding is going on. So you get a nice good sample. I have only been to one tasting and was completely impressed.
Some places don't offer tastings till you book and finalize it for your menu. All you can do is ask and see what they offer you.

We ate at the restaurant there and I have been to weddings at their sister venue (Carlyle on the Green). I know the food is good. I just wasn't sure if a 'tasting' is where you finalize the menu? When do you do this?

Some consider their tasting when you finalize the menu..and this can be about 6-8 weeks before your wedding. Generally, the BM will inform you of this when you ask. Sometimes their general tastings prior to booking, the BM will note what foods you like and what you didn't like for when you choose your menus, you remember what you tasted and liked.
